The mysterious and majestic megalithic structures remind of the Nuragic civilization (1800 - 500 BC). Who created them is still unknown. What was their purpose - there are only speculations. Scientists express different opinions: temples, dwellings, military fortresses, residences of rulers or observatories.

7000 - 8000 Nuraghes have survived to this day, out of a possible 20,000 - 30,000 structures. Nevertheless, the ancient architects did a great job. For thousands of years, Nuragi have been towering over the surrounding area, despite the fact that the structures have no foundation. The largest stone complex - Su-Nuraksi - is located in Barumini.

Equally mysterious is the origin of the "tombs of the giants", which appeared in the same period. The dimensions of the burial chambers reached fifteen meters in length and two meters in height. The islanders closed the entrance to the tomb with stone blocks. The highest slab was placed in the center. You can admire the Cyclopean buildings on the way to Kapikera.
