Many experts predict an unenviable future for large cities in the coastal zone. By the end of our century, they believe, these cities will be submerged as a result of global warming and rising sea levels.
They made such a conclusion after analyzing the information collected by satellites over the past 25 years. It turned out that since 1993 the rate of rise in the water level in the world's oceans has been growing. And although the acceleration may seem insignificant - only 0.084 millimeters per year, over a century the result can be serious: scientists predict that the water in the ocean will rise by 65 centimeters. This will happen due to the active melting of glaciers in Antarctica and Greenland. Such a noticeable rise will lead to massive flooding.

Ultimately, many famous tourist, commercial and industrial centers may disappear from the face of the Earth. In addition to countries that have direct coastal zones, the threat of flooding is relevant for areas located too low in relation to sea level. Such is the Netherlands, the very name of which (translated as “low lands”) speaks of such a critical disposition.

It is believed that the threat of flooding is more real for poor countries than for rich ones. The developed countries will have the means to protect themselves from the rampant elements. In this case, the cost of protective measures will in any case be lower than the damage from flooding. Also, most of all, the inhabitants of the island states should be afraid, which can be completely destroyed. According to many forecasts, for example, Tuvalu, a small Pacific state, will completely go under water.
