Modern computer games are very similar to the real world. What if our world is also a computer game running on a very powerful computer? Is this scientifically possible and can we run our own model of the universe?

The hypothesis that the whole world is unreal was first expressed back in the 6th century BC by the Greek mathematician Pythagoras. The ancient scientist believed that only numbers and their endless combinations are real. Everything else obeys mathematics and can be described with its help.

Among them are entrepreneur Elon Musk, physicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson, cosmologist Max Tegmark and others.

So why is this possible? An analogy can be drawn with a video game. Since the 1970s, games have progressed from the simplest of arcades to sophisticated, realistic online games that can be played simultaneously by several million people. Most likely, in a few decades, games will appear that are indistinguishable from reality.
