Avalon, a mythical island in the Western Ocean - Land of the Dead or Celtic Paradise. Also called female Earth or Apple Island.

This is a place of abundance and endless harvest, this is a place where eternal spring reigns, continuous peace and harmony, no sickness or misfortune reaches it. Those who get to Avalon live in complete bliss, both spiritual and physical, they do not need to worry about anything, the island takes care of them in every way.

The legendary Avalon was portrayed as a round, not too large island, located among the surrounding lakes, overgrown with wild apple trees, oaks and elms. There were four hills on this island, the highest of which was 158 m above sea level. Two springs flowed from under this hill.

Based on the legends, we can learn that this island is inhabited by beautiful women awaiting the arrival of great, courageous heroes. The island is owned, or rather, patronized by a soothsayer who knows how to look into the future. The clairvoyant's husband is a male guardian who travels through sea waters in a chariot drawn by sea monsters.

Legends also say that King Arthur was buried in the mysterious land of Avalon or still lives forever. Avalon also appears to be a hiding place, according to some of the greatest treasures on earth, the Holy Grail. Therefore, it is not surprising that the search for a mystical land continues continuously.

The lands of Avalon are located in Glastonbury, Gotland or Mont Saint Michel. However, most claim that the legendary Avalon is today's Glastonbury. The first such observation was made in 1133 by the chronicler Godfried of Monmouth.

What speaks in favor of his thesis? In 1191, the Glastonbury monks announced that they had found the graves of King Arthur and his wife Guinevere. A lead cross with a Latin inscription: Hic iacet sepultus inclitus Rex Arturuis in insula Avalonia - here lies the famous King Arthur on the island of Avalon.

From that moment on, this place attracted a whole crowd of researchers and historians, and to this day it constantly attracts tourists from all over the world. However, the alleged remains went missing during the Reformation in France.

Another fact that speaks in favor of identifying Avalon with Glastonbury is two sources located 50 meters from each other, White Spring and Blood Spring. Their names refer to the color of the water flowing in them, in the first it is milky, and in the second it is reddish.

The third evidence, indicating that Glastonbury is the legendary Avalon, was considered to be the apple trees growing on this land. Here the adherents of this theory refer to the very name Avolon, which is supposed to come from the Welsh word aballon, which means apple tree.

Added to these considerations is the fact that Halis Hill, located in the town, connects with the legend of Joseph Arimathea and his hidden Holy Grail. This thesis is confirmed by the statement that the last Abbot of Glastonbury, who lived in the 16th century, shortly before his death, handed over to his brothers with a request to hide it in a safe place, the most valuable treasure of the abbey, a wooden goblet.

The only thing that refutes the theory of identifying the city of Glastonbury with the mythical Avalon is that the city is not an island. Scientists, however, do not exclude that in the old days it could have looked different, because this area is completely swampy.

We can visit Glastonbury to experience the mysterious aura that envelops this land. In addition to religious traces, we also find many references to pagan beliefs in the city. In the nearby shops we can buy items of pagan and magical character. For tourists, and especially those who are consciously looking for answers, a trip to the top of the hill and exploring the ruins of the abbey can be a truly exciting experience.

Then you should think and feel these words:

Marion Zimmer Bradley, Mist of Avalon

So perhaps Avalon is not a material place that we might encounter somewhere in the world. Maybe this is a place that is everywhere at the same time, to which we constantly have energy access?

We only need to synchronize our frequencies with it, not allow the sounds of the bells to be disturbed, the purpose of which is our wandering, and with full responsibility and courage to open ourselves, and, above all, our heart, and just want to get there.

Maybe this is the place in each of us?
