The man turned his prosthesis into a device that allows him to transform thoughts into music without using fingers - neither real nor artificial.
Musician Bertolt Meyer, who was born without a part of his left arm, showed a unique prosthesis on his YouTube channel. The device allows him to play a melody just by thinking about it.
Bertholt has been using the prosthesis since he was three months old. The lack of a full-fledged hand did not prevent the man from becoming a musician. At 42, Meyer came up with an unusual idea: what if you create a device that will allow you to turn thoughts into music?
With the help of friends, the man modified his prosthesis, replacing the brush with a controller to control a synthesizer. Nerve signals entering the prosthesis are converted on the controller, turning into a melody. The modified device was named SynLab.
The musician recorded a video in which he explained the mechanism of his "musical prosthesis" and tested it by "playing" a danceable electronic melody. “For me, it's like manipulating a synthesizer with the power of thought,” says Meyer.
