As you know, the Bermuda Triangle is an area in the Atlantic Ocean in which ships and planes inexplicably disappear and other mysterious phenomena occur. The triangle is located between Florida, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. This area is very difficult to navigate: the sea has different depths, there are often shoals, and storms are not uncommon here. It is possible that it is these natural elements that become the cause of catastrophes, to which the legends attribute a mystical or "paranormal" meaning.
For the first time about the mysterious disasters in the area was mentioned in 1950 in the Associated Press. And in 1964, the phrase "Bermuda Triangle" appeared in a certain "spiritualistic" magazine. The “supernatural” reservoir was finally popularized by Charles Berlitz, who published a whole book about it in 1974. The book caused a wide resonance, but a year later the skeptic Lawrence David Kusche published his book, which refuted the facts set out by Berlitz. In this book, the distortions of factual material, inaccuracies and falsifications made by Berlitz were shown, interviews with eyewitnesses of the events were also given, which also confirmed the completely natural nature of the phenomena in the "triangle".
An illustrative example is the departure of a squadron of five Avenger bombers, whose crew, according to Berlitz's book, consisted of 14 experienced pilots. The squadron moved in clear, cloudless weather, but in the area of the Bermuda Triangle they went missing. Even their fragments were not found. Only fragments of their radio messages have survived, in which they talked about the sudden failure of the equipment, the unusual state of the sea and the inability to determine the direction. Refuting Berlitz, Kusche reports that the crew actually consisted of cadets performing a training flight and an experienced pilot accompanying them, Lieutenant Taylor, who, however, was only recently transferred there from another military base and did not know the territory well.
Meanwhile, reports of missing ships and aircraft continued to arrive. In many cases, entire groups of planes simply disappeared from the radar, and the teams sent to search for them also disappeared.
Another curious fact is that ship wrecks in the Bermuda Triangle were known much earlier than 1950. Back in 1918, the giant ship Cyclops disappeared there, carrying a significant batch of ore and 390 passengers. Literally everyone began to search for the disappeared ship - the military, journalists, even the US President made his contribution to the search, but the Cyclops was not found. Despite such a high-profile incident, public attention was not drawn to the Bermuda Triangle proper.

Various researchers, from professional scientists to sensationalists, have put forward many explanations for what is happening in the Bermuda Triangle. Most of all, the world knows "paranormal" versions: abduction by aliens from space, the activities of the inhabitants of Atlantis (a mythical continent inhabited by a highly developed race), a hole in time and space, the presence in that area of plesiosaurs and other giant aquatic lizards, which official science considers a long time ago extinct. Supporters of these versions do not take into account many completely "earthly" facts: these are not only the mentioned difficulties with the relief and climate of the Bermuda Triangle, but also the presence of a huge number of water and air flights through this area, which occurred without any complications. Ships and airplanes in such numbers disappear not only in the Bermuda Triangle.
There are more reasonable versions of what is happening
One hypothesis is the existence of methane emissions in the area, which cause a decrease in the density of water and air, as a result of which ships sink and planes crash. There is also a hypothesis about infrasound, which under certain conditions is created in the sea; Infrasound affects the crews of aircraft and ships, causing panic and insanity.
It has been experimentally proven that a ship can instantly sink if there is methane in the water - if the methane bubble is large enough. True, there are methane emissions in other regions of the World Ocean, but there are no massive disasters recorded.
Another hypothesis links the death of ships with "wandering waves", which can reach heights of several tens of meters. Unlike other similar phenomena such as tsunamis, wandering waves occur for no apparent reason - they are not preceded by an earthquake or some other cataclysm. Wandering waves are themselves a mystery of their own, attracting paranormalists; the reasons for their origin have not yet been established. It is only known that they can be not only crests, but also depressions. There is an assumption that wandering waves can be solitons - "particle-like waves". Such waves really behave like particles: for example, when they collide with each other or with some other types of waves, they do not collapse, but continue to move, their structure does not change.
One way or another, all the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle have not yet been solved. This place, even in our time, remains mysterious and incomprehensible.
