The appearance from time to time on certain sections of the road of ghosts of people who died in car accidents, or hitch-hikers (hitchhikers) is not uncommon, as drivers have seen from their own experience.
Such cases can be divided into two groups. The first includes short-term meetings when a car with a driver runs over someone on the road. At the same time, the frightened driver gets out of the car in full confidence that he has hit a living person.
However, when examining the scene, he does not find a body that seems to have fallen under the wheels of the car. The second group is stories that can be characterized as the syndrome of ghosts, voting on the roads. They stop the car, get into it, sometimes even talk friendly with the driver, but then suddenly disappear.
At night on April 10, 1978, in South Africa, Davi van Jaarsfeld pulled up near the town of Uniondale. There was a girl voting on the road, and the driver agreed to give her a lift. After about 10 miles, when Jarsfeld stopped to refuel his car, he saw that the stranger was missing. At the same time, the protective helmet that he gave her was strapped to the seat. The astonished driver immediately contacted the police. There he was told that a similar incident happened two years ago with a motorist named Anton le Grange.
Cynthia Hind, a specialist in anomalous phenomena, was involved in the investigation of the incidents. She identified the ghost with Maria Roux, who died on April 12, 1968 in an accident at the same location where both motorists met her. These men subsequently identified Roux from a photograph presented. But the story did not end there.
The fact is that the ghost of a young woman continues to appear in this place over and over again. This happens every year, and always on the day associated with the anniversary of Ru's death. In this case, the ghost stops only young single men traveling in a car.
Other story. Around 9 pm on October 12, 1979, Englishman Roy Fulton was returning home from a late dart match. On a deserted stretch of road near Dunstable in Bedfordshire, half a mile from the village of Stanbridge, he put a young man who was voting on the roadside in his car.

It looked like a black-haired youth of about twenty, wearing a navy blue pullover over a white shirt. As soon as the young man took the passenger seat, Fulton asked where he should go. However, the passenger did not answer, but only smiled and simply waved his hand forward. Thus they rode in complete silence for several miles.
Before the town of Totterngo, the driver offered his taciturn companion a cigarette. Turning around, Fulton was at first amazed, and then frightened: the young man was not in the car! A few minutes later, the shocked Englishman excitedly talked about this incident to the visitors of a nearby pub.
Sometimes, on a particular section of a road, so many such incidents occur that they begin to acquire the reputation of an enchanted place inhabited by ghosts. This is, for example, Bluebell Hill on the section of highway A-229 south of Chetham in Kent, UK. Reports of strange and incomprehensible cases began to come from here in 1968. Moreover, these were both types of accidents: the “voting ghost” and the “ghostly accident”.
The beginning of such accidents, apparently, is associated with the death of a certain girl who died in this place in a car accident at the foot of the hill in 1965. Since that time, the stranger began to constantly stop cars with a request to give her a lift. Then she suddenly and completely disappeared without a trace.
However, sometimes the girl behaves differently. So, Maurice Gu-denau, who was driving a car late at night on July 13, 1974, up the hill, suddenly noticed how the figure of a girl appeared in the light of his headlights and immediately disappeared under the wheels of the car. The stunned driver stopped, then approached a girl who was lying on the road with no signs of life with a bleeding forehead.
Shaken, Maurice covered her with a blanket and carried her to the sidewalk, after which he went to the nearest police station, in Rochester. There he told the law enforcement officers about the unfortunate incident. But when the police arrived at the scene, they did not find any victim: the girl disappeared without a trace, leaving only one blanket. Traces of blood were also not found. In bewilderment, the police left the place, never realizing what actually happened.
And here is another place that another ghost has chosen for itself. This is a section of the A-38 highway near Wellington in Somerset. Although the ghost has been seen many times by many people, the most unusual incident happened to the truck driver Harold Unsworth. This happened back in 1958, when Harold gave a ride to the mysterious creature several times, until he finally suspected something was wrong.
The first meeting took place early in the morning at the end of April. Unsworth picked up a middle-aged man on the road who was voting near Blackbird Inn, a mile west of Heatherton Grange. The man turned out to be very talkative, and at the very point to which he asked to be taken, he calmly left, politely thanking the driver.
After some time, the driver again met the already familiar man, who was walking slowly along the same section of the road. Unsworth gave him a ride again. A month later, the situation repeated itself. During all three trips, Unsworth did not notice anything strange in either the behavior or the words of his passenger. However, the fourth meeting, which took place in November, revealed a slightly different nature of the creature.
At this meeting, the man, instead of immediately getting into the car, asked Unsworth to wait a little while he dragged his luggage. The driver waited in good faith for 20 minutes, but the passenger did not appear. Then Unsworth decided to continue the trip without the missing passenger. But a few miles later, the chauffeur was surprised to see the same man waving a torch to him, probably trying to stop him.
Unsworth wondered how the man had managed to get to this place. The fact is that since the previous meeting, the truck driver has not seen a single vehicle driving along the highway in the same direction.
Reflecting on this phenomenon, Unsworth suddenly clearly sensed something strange, almost supernatural in his acquaintance, and decided not to stop. And then he saw how the man rushed across his truck, right under the wheels. Unsworth braked sharply, immediately jumped out of the cockpit and … did not see any victim!
On the other hand, about thirty yards behind him, a familiar figure stood on the road, shaking its fist, angrily shouting something about Unsworth's refusal to give him a ride. Another second - and the man on the road disappeared, as if evaporated!
Near the Texas border, people often saw the ghost of a fisherman, with a fishing rod and a backpack. He always voted on the road in the same place. He asked the drivers to give him a lift to Bushlake Lake. After a couple of minutes, the passenger disappeared without a trace, leaving the fellow travelers in disbelief. The ghost fisherman appeared several times a month for eight years. According to the description, he resembled the local fisherman Frank Giacombo, who was once hit on the road by a truck.
In 1997, the phantom made his last trip to the lake with a school teacher - and after that, no one saw him again.
Of course, these phenomena can be explained by the fact that the drivers imagined everything - they, they say, were tired or were under the influence of wine fumes. However, the number of stories about hitch hikers is so great that such versions can only be attributed to isolated cases.
But it’s impossible to ignore the argument: the ghost passengers were seen quite clearly over the years by many witnesses in the same places. An explanation for all these extraordinary phenomena has not yet been found.
