Boleyn became the wife of Henry VIII in 1533. In 1536 she was beheaded on charges of adultery and treason. At Blickling Hall, the ghost of Anna was seen with a severed head in her lap. In addition, two more ghosts "live" in the mansion: the knight, Sir John Fastolfe, who served as the prototype for Shakespeare's Falstaff, and Sir Henry Hobart, who was killed in a duel in 1698, according to the list also included Dunster Castle in Somerset, where, according to the staff of the gift shop, the "man in green" was repeatedly seen. In addition, visitors feel the general “threatening atmosphere”, and goods unexpectedly fall from the shelves in the souvenir shop.
The National Heritage List was compiled with the help of Sian Evans, author of Ghosts: Mysterious Tales from the National Trust. She claims that of the 630 castles and old mansions open to the public, 230 have ghosts.
