Video: FACT CHECK: Did Nostradamus Predict Coronavirus Outbreak in 1551? || Factly 2024, March

More than a hundred years ago, an old book with watercolors was discovered in the Roman National Library. Some researchers believe that these sketches were made by the hand of the most famous medieval prophet Michel Nostradamus.

Mysterious manuscript

Pharmacist, physician and alchemist Michel de Notre Dame was born on December 14, 1503 in the town of Saint-Remy-de-Provence (France). He became famous all over the world thanks to his annual almanacs, published from 1550 until his death.

Nostradamus left no will with a request to keep his manuscripts. They have spread all over the world, and still periodically pop up in the archives of libraries.

One of these sensational finds was a book with 80 watercolor drawings. It was found back in the 19th century, but it became famous all over the world only in 2008, after the release of the movie "The Lost Book of Nostradamus".

The first mention of the book dates back to 1888, when it was entered in the register of manuscripts in the National Roman Library. According to these records, the manuscript was delivered by a certain Italian named Pivoli. But nothing is known about who this mysterious Pivoli could be and where he came from.

It is only known that before that the book was in the Vatican library. A note attached to the manuscript has survived that the drawings were transferred to the Vatican by the son of Nostradamus, Cesar de Notrdam. They were intended as a gift to Cardinal Maffeo Barberini, who later became Pope Urban VIII.

Prophecies about the Vatican

Although Nostradamus was not a native of Italy, he lived in this country for a long time. It is not surprising that many of his watercolors depict the rulers of the Vatican. The writer and expert on the works of Nostradamus Vincent Bridges is convinced that the drawings depicting the persecution and murder of the popes predict the decline and death of Catholicism. The journalist Enza Massa is sure that we are talking about previously unknown predictions of Nostradamus, and they are expressed in drawings precisely because images can say much more than a thousand words about an unknown future. In addition, thanks to the clearly written out heraldic details, it immediately becomes clear which of the popes Nostradamus had in mind in each of the drawings.

So, on one of the pages of the discovered book, we see the Virgin Mary (the coat of arms of Pope John Paul II) and an Ottoman soldier who is trying to kill the Pope. It is very similar to the attempt on the life of John Paul II in May 1981, committed by a member of the Turkish ultra-right group "Gray Wolves" Mehmet Ali Agca. He badly wounded dad in the stomach and was sentenced to life in prison.

The drawing looks very strange in which a group of women turns away from the Pope. There are two crosses on the Pope's staff, the ground underneath is on fire, and on the dice lying at his feet is the number six. Doesn't this tell us about the collapse of the Catholic Church?

A very sinister drawing - a griffin with a papal cross, a skull and an Islamic crescent. But in written predictions, Nostradamus mentioned the "big star in the sky", which will shine for seven days along with the sun, after which the most powerful branch of Christianity will disappear.

In any case, almost all drawings dedicated to the Church are associated with violence, war and destruction. These prophecies may hint at the decline of the Vatican and such times when its rulers will be forced to flee to stay alive.

Prophecies about New York

The series of cryptic drawings also contains predictions of a terrorist attack on New York. One of them clearly shows the silhouette of a modern city, into which aircraft are rushing - a parallel with the events of September 11, 2001. It is hard to imagine how Nostradamus could have predicted the appearance of airplanes in the 16th century. Another drawing shows a huge tower on fire. And, according to experts, it is not a fire that is drawn here, but an explosion.

The 97th quatrain of the 6th Century acquired a completely new meaning:

The sky will light up at 45 degrees.

The flame will reach the new city.

Immediately a huge flame rises …

Of course, New York is not at the 45th, but at the 40th latitude, but, nevertheless, to predict in the 16th century that there will be a city that was not even planned then … This is mysticism!

The silhouette of New York is repeated many times in mysterious drawings. The author of the book "Secrets of Alchemy" Jay Weidner says that Nostradamus was downright obsessed with the images of a certain new city. One drawing shows off a large wheel of fate, inside which an eagle is visible - another hint. After all, it is the eagle that is present in the coat of arms of New York.

In the name of Nostradamus

So is the lost book really created by Nostradamus or is it just speculation? Do all the drawings belong to his pen, or is it a collection of different predictors that were very popular in the Middle Ages? Ron Pickcoe, an American art scholar, is sure that Nostradamus is the author of the drawings. But the Italian Maria Cristina Misiti, director of the library of archeology and art history in Rome, disagrees with him. According to her expertise, the ink used to make the drawings and signatures to them have too different compositions to relate to one time period.

Most likely, we are talking about a collection of drawings of the XVI-XVIII centuries. In addition, Misiti found other images of popes in various libraries in Italy. And they all contain symbolic predictions about the tragic fate of the institution of Catholicism.

But these facts do not exclude the possibility that Nostradamus was involved in the creation of the found book. And it is theoretically possible that the son of Nostradamus made all these drawings according to the predictions of his father.

One thing is clear: someone long ago decided to bring these predictions or messages to us. People at different times rewrote and redrawn texts and pictures so that they would not be lost or destroyed by time. And, perhaps, the name of Nostradamus did not appear in vain in the records of the Vatican manuscript register: this is how this historical document got a better chance of survival.
