The Atlantic Ocean continues to carry thousands of dead invertebrates to the eastern coast of Canada - and scientists don't understand why.

Beginning in November, the surf has washed thousands of dead sea dwellers on the shores of the Gulf of Maine in eastern Canada. An unusual "death" has attracted a lot of attention from the public and scientists who cannot yet find the cause of the mass death.

In an interview with CBC News, David Whorley, head of the Fisheries and Oceanic Areas of the province of Nova Scotia, said that the first assumption of scientists - an outbreak of viral hemorrhagic septicemia - was not confirmed and subsequent studies did not reveal traces of damage by some known pathogen in the remains. Meanwhile, the waves continue to carry out dead animals - crabs, lobsters and even starfish.

“ All we know is that in one particular place, many different species are found dead, loosely related to each other, ” commented veterinarian pathologist Ted Leighton for the Chronicle Herald. - However, almost all of them are invertebrates and live at the very bottom of the ocean.

Some local activists blame the giant new tidal power plant for the loss of fauna. Its installation in the bay began just in November 2016. The tides here are especially strong, allowing you to generate a lot of energy, but the noise that the turbines create, according to activists, can have a bad effect on the state of marine animals.

On this occasion, the fishermen even filed a lawsuit, but lost the process. In fact, the station is located at a decent distance from the coast, where it carries the bulk of the remains. The reason for the mass death of animals remains unknown.
