Chupacabra takes its name from the Spanish words for goat and suck. For more than half a century, there have been legends about this mysterious creature, attacking goats, chickens and other small livestock and supposedly sucking blood from them. And these stories came from Puerto Rico, a small state located next to the United States.

In the following post, researcher Nick Redfern from the paranormal site Mysterious Universe talks about how he personally traveled to Puerto Rico in 2004 to learn more about this creature and meet those who saw it firsthand.

“Usually, hearing the name 'Chupacabra', people think that this creature attacks only goats, but this is not so. It attacks pigs, chickens, cats - anyone it considers accessible prey. Even peacocks. In the summer of 2004, I traveled to Puerto Rico with monster hunter John Downs and the SyFy crew to learn more about the Chupacabra.

One of our stops was an alpine ranch, which was extremely difficult to reach by a steep dirt road that had a deep chasm on one side for the last five miles. We really wanted to get to this ranch because there were rumors there were chupacabra attacks.

Farmer rancher Dominic lived in a large stone house surrounded by a high white wall. In addition to cattle and numerous goats and pigs, he kept a flock of peacocks. And in 1998 something strange happened to them - four birds were killed at once in an extremely unusual way. All the violent birds seemed to have only bite marks on their necks.

But there was something else that none of us had seen or heard about it before - the small skulls of all the birds were neatly pierced with something sharp and triangular in shape.

Perplexed and outraged by the attack on his precious peacocks, Dominic has since then very carefully guarded the remaining birds. Every night he lay down next to their paddock and slept lightly, making sure that there were no new attacks. This gave its results, more birds did not die, but the Chupacabra, according to Dominic, still came to the birds several times. And he himself saw her in all her "glory".

This was very important for us, because it was the most reliable source we could wish for. We asked Dominik to tell in detail about what happened.

According to his story, at night he placed the peacocks in a corral enclosed by a strong net and on the night of the murder of four peacocks, the fence on the north side was damaged, a hole formed in it. After the attack, Dominic decided to take a flashlight and a chair and stay inside the pen overnight.

On the first night of his sleepover, something crept into the corral from the side where the hole was. Dominic heard a distinctive sound, as if something was trying to get through the fence and pointed the flashlight in that direction.

He was shocked to see next to him an unexpectedly large creature at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) long, brownish in color. Initially, it stood on all fours, but in the light of the lantern it suddenly rose on its hind legs.

The creature apparently noticed the person or he really did not like the bright light, as it growled menacingly and suddenly a row of long sharp spikes rose from his neck and back. At the sight of this creature, Dominic froze in his chair with fear and did not even think about how to get up and grab the rifle standing next to him.

At that moment, the peacocks suddenly screamed strongly and Dominic froze even more with fear. The Chupacabra stood on its hind legs for a while, swaying threateningly and as if thinking whether to attack an adult or not, and then fell on all fours and ran away into the hole in the net.

In the next 2-3 weeks, the chupacabra did not come to the peacocks anymore, but Dominic saw this creature several times at dusk next to his farm, sitting in the thickets.

In each case, when trying to approach him, the creature retreated into the depths of the fields. Soon it stopped approaching the farm and Dominic never saw it again.
