Are the Egyptian pyramids built of concrete?

Experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology suggest that some blocks of the Egyptian pyramids were made not from stones brought from the quarry, but from a special composition resembling concrete, according to the Boston Globe.

If their hypothesis is confirmed, the Egyptians will be the first to use such materials. Until now, it was believed that the ancient Romans invented concrete.

According to archaeologists, there is no evidence that the blocks used in the pyramids were created this way. However, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology believe that such technology could save millions of man-hours.

In order to prove the correctness of their hypothesis, experts decided to conduct several experiments using crushed limestone and other materials that were available to the ancient Egyptians. The model of the pyramid created by the researchers is composed of only 280 blocks, while the Cheops pyramid consists of 2.3 million blocks.
