IBM is improving the Watson supercomputer so that it can provide much more value to doctors as they work. The company's specialists intend to use the system to analyze medical imaging data, thanks to which it will "learn" to recognize the state of healthy organs. Thus, later the supercomputer could detect deviations from the norm and send the scanned images directly to medical specialists in a particular field. If this information complements patient records, the treatment of serious illnesses can be more effective and take less time.

The company is struggling to recoup the money it invested in promoting Watson as a multi-functional supercomputer. The only problem is IBM's confidence in the versatility of large amounts of data, although in this case, this principle can really work. If anything, other companies are working in the same direction, including Zebra Medical, which is developing similar technologies for X-ray imaging. The firm also provides patients with the ability to upload their CT and mammotomography images to a database for review by the system.

One of IBM's projects is the so-called "doctor's assistant" designed to make the doctor's work more orderly. If a patient is diagnosed with a tumor, the Watson supercomputer will collect data from various sources and create a personalized treatment program. Another program will help emergency physicians diagnose a cerebral hemorrhage by cross-checking a patient's medical records for symptoms.
