DeepMind specialists have created a new artificial intelligence capable of using their imagination to plan further actions. Developers report that imaginative AI programs “think” about their future actions and better predict which actions will be the most appropriate in the future.
The creators of AI programs dubbed I2As (Imagination-Augmented Agents) talked about the "New Approach to Planning Based on Imagination" in an article published on the DeepMind website. According to them, the development of artificial intelligence can get a new round if programs learn to use imagination, memory and begin to show curiosity.
The AI's imagination was tested using the game Sokoban, in which the player has to place boxes in the right places. A box that has been pushed in the wrong place can no longer be rearranged, which means that one wrong attempt leads to a loss. Therefore, the new AI first carefully studied the playing field, thinking over possible options for the development of events, and only then, when all options were considered, made a move.
The program does a good job, especially considering that she's new to video games.
