Every day, Moscow residents use the metro, which is the capital's main vehicle. Going down to the subway is a common thing. But there is another side of the metro, about which little is known.

Pre-war time

In addition to the delivery of the main lines of the metro, the builders worked on secret projects. During the construction of the second stage of the metro (it was opened in 1937-1938) there was a project of the Sovetskaya station, between the Sverdlova Square (Teatralnaya) and Mayakovskaya stations. Stalin ordered that the "Soviet" station be equipped for the underground administration of the headquarters of the state defense. "Sovetskaya" was never opened, the track between the stations was long, and only in 1979, after the opening of the Tverskaya station, the track was divided into two parts.

Before the war, they began to build connected tunnels along the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line - to connect the Kremlin with Stalin's bunkers. It was assumed that a stadium would be built, under which a bunker for Stalin was built with access to the stands and a performance hall. Two automobile tunnels were built: to the Kremlin and to the Sokolniki metro station. There is also a passage to the bunker from the Izmailovsky Park station. A similar bunker was built under Stalin's dacha in Kuntsevo, 37 km long.

During the bombing of Moscow in July 1941, the metro was used as a bomb shelter. Stalin gave a decree to build a personal bomb shelter in Kuntsevo, at a depth of 15 meters. For the greater safety of the leader of the peoples, the ceilings were cast iron. The entrance to the bunker is inconspicuous: an ordinary door with a combination lock, stairs. Only Stalin did not go down the stairs, but took the elevator. An elevator connected Stalin's dacha with his bunker. The interior of the bunker was rich: marble on the walls, wooden parquet, the walls of the office were finished with oak, an oak table in the middle.

On April 5, 1953, due to the existence of the bunker, a mysterious deep section was launched - deeper than the civilian metro - from Revolution Square to Kievskaya. It was built in just two years. The tunnel after Kievskaya was carried out to Victory Park.

For the first time, they started talking about secret metro lines only in the 1980s. The first publication in the media dates back to 1992, in the newspaper Argumenty i Fakty. Since 1992, the topic of "secret" metro lines has been discussed in the media, the magazine "Ogonyok" gave a simple name: Metro-2.

Metro-2 or D6

The presence of the secret Metro-2 line (called D6 in Soviet times) excited the press. Large articles were printed, where on the pages of newspapers they expressed their assumptions, because of this Metro-2 was overgrown with rumors and legends. But already in 1993, the topic of the secret metro completely disappeared from the pages of newspapers. There is no officially confirmed information about the presence of Metro-2, there is no secret subway scheme. Through the efforts of enthusiasts (one of whom are Aretimy Lebedev), it was possible to collect information and draw up an approximate scheme of Metro-2.

First line

It was put into operation in 1967 (it is assumed that some part was launched earlier). Length 27 km. Stations: Kremlin - Library. Lenin - Academy of the FSB - Academy of the General Staff - Ramenki (underground city for 15 thousand inhabitants) - Solntsevo (possibly) - Vnukovo Airport -2.

In 1954, in the published book "Moscow Metro" they wrote about the fifth stage of the metro. An unclear situation remained with the Frunzensky radius, because Frunzenskaya and Sportivnaya are located where they were supposed to, and the underground section remained unrealized - after all, today there is a ground station "Vorobyovy Gory". The "University" was planned to be built next to the main building of Moscow State University, but at the end of 1950 it was built in a different way. If you look at the metro tunnels from "Sportivnaya" to "University", you can see the connecting tunnel on the left. It is used as a turnaround dead end, but in reality it dives steeply downward and rests against the gate. They are called the only civilian metro and Metro 2 connecting gates.

There are ventilation shafts in Troparevo. In 2014, the Troparevo station was opened, but why were they needed before that? The General Staff Academy is only 5 floors, but most of them are underground. There is a version that this is also one of the entrances to metro-2.

There is a version that in the 80s the branch was increased to the government airport Vnukovo-2. In the town of Odintsovo near Moscow, in 1987, a residential complex "New Houses" was built for the underground workers of the second, secret, line.

Second line

Commissioned in 1987. Length - 60 km.

Stations: Kremlin, then goes to the south, parallel to the Varshavskoe highway, to the Bor boarding house, where the General Staff's reserve point is located. There is a version that the government metro line runs further, after Chekhov. According to assumptions, the construction base is located near Tsaritsyno.

Third line

Commissioned in 1987. Length - 25 km.

Stations: Kremlin - Lubyanka - Myasnitskaya, 33 (air defense headquarters). Then the line goes under the Enthusiasts Highway, through the Izmailovsky Park. Perhaps it has an exit near the "Red Gate".

Fourth line

The fourth metro line-2 is the most mysterious of all. There is almost no information about her. It seems that it starts near the Smolenskaya metro station, then goes under the Victory Park and into the bunker on Barvikha.

What is Metro-2 for?

Metro-2 is under the control of the KGB (subdivision 15, underground), after the collapse of the USSR it came under the leadership of the FSB. The entire metro system-2 is deep, deeper than Park Pobedy (the depth of this metro station is 80 meters). The total length is 150 km.

The main function of Metro-2 is to promptly withdraw the top officials of the state in the event of an atomic bomb threat. In peacetime, Metro-2 is used to transport cargo, personnel and serve for peaceful purposes. The government does not use the line for transportation.

Metro-2 does not have two tracks, as in the civilian metro. The contact rail is not used, and the tracks are deepened into concrete so that vehicles and military equipment can also move through the tunnels.
