Unusual twins were born in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. A resident of the country gave birth to two boys at the same time, who, nevertheless, have different fathers. This phenomenon is extremely rare and has been documented no more than a dozen times in the entire history of medicine.

Nguyen Thi Nga, director of the Genetic Testing Center in Hanoi, told local media that a citizen approached their clinic earlier this month and wanted to test deoxyribonucleic acid on his wife's twins. The man's relatives considered that one of the babies was strikingly different from the father, including in eye color and skin tone.

Experts took mouth swabs from the Vietnamese and the babies and analyzed the DNA match. As a result, it turned out that the spouse's relatives were not mistaken: the man became the father of only one of the boys, while one woman became the mother of both newborns.

In medicine, this phenomenon is called heteropaternal superfecundation. We are talking about the fertilization of two eggs in one ovulation period with the sperm of two men. According to doctors, fertilization is carried out during two unprotected intercourse with different partners, between which several hours or days pass. Thus, the Vietnamese can sympathize with the infidelity of his wife.

Twin fathers are often unaware of anything

The birth of several children in women from different fathers, as mentioned above, is extremely rare. However, the official statistics of heteropaternal superfecundation are not kept in any country of the world, since it is believed that in the overwhelming majority of cases the parents or, at least, the head of the family do not know that there are several fathers. Thus, twins from different men, in principle, can be born much more often than is commonly believed.

Superfecundation is common in dogs and cats. It is known that stray bitches are capable of producing puppies in a litter, each of which has a different male father. From a biological point of view, this allows the dog to produce the most diverse genetic material.

This phenomenon can be found in ancient Greek mythology. For example, the wife of the Spartan king Tyndareus Leda gave birth to four children at once, two of whom were from Zeus and two from her husband. And Iphicles, the twin of Hercules, was the child of the mortal Amphitryon, and not Zeus, like his brother.

By the way, we add that the deceived Vietnamese refused to comment to journalists on how his wife's betrayal would affect the well-being and integrity of his family.
