The skeletons of incredibly tall people (213 to 243 centimeters) were found on the shores of the Amazon in Ecuador and Peru. Currently, according to the head of the research group, British anthropologist Russell Dement, these remains are being studied by specialists in Germany. Will these skeletons convince scientists that a race of giants lived in the Amazon forests hundreds of years ago?

Since 2013, a team of researchers has reported the discovery of at least five unusual skeletons that date back to the 1400s and mid-1500s. The tallest of these giants was 243 centimeters tall.

“We are still at the very beginning of our research and today we have only the most general idea about our findings,” says Dement. - I do not want to make premature statements, since the work is still in full swing. There may be an anthropological or medical explanation for the unusual size of the skeletons."

In late 2013, Dement received information about a giant skeleton found in the area where the Shuar tribe lives. It is about 112 kilometers from Cuenca (Ecuador). He immediately went to the place where he found the ribcage of the chest and the skull of a woman, which were on the surface after a severe flood. The age of the remains, according to experts, is 600 years. The rest of the skeleton was also found, after which it was possible to calculate the woman's height - 223.5 centimeters.

Following this first find, a team of researchers from the Free University of Berlin was formed and a technique for excavation was allocated, in which the scientists were assisted by local residents.

“The skeletons that we have been able to find show no signs of growth abnormalities such as hormonal problems, which are usually associated with unusually tall stature. The joints of all skeletons, without exception, seem to be healthy and the cavities of the lungs are large enough everywhere. One of the women whose skeleton we found apparently died at the age of about 60 - usually people suffering from gigantism die much earlier."

Among other things, the graves themselves are noteworthy. The bodies were wrapped in leaves and covered with a thick layer of clay. Thus, the skeletons were protected from water and they are quite well preserved.
