On October 15, the 455th expedition "Kosmopoisk" in the Krasnodar Territory ended, in which, in addition to the Moscow group, the groups "Krasnodar-Kosmopoisk", "Gelendzhik-Kosmopoisk", "Kostroma-Kosmopoisk" and "Thailand Kosmopoisk", as well as dive clubs took part "Neptune Pro" Togliatti and "Russo Turisto" Tambov. The expedition pursued 4 main goals.

The first of the main objectives of the expedition is to explore the so-called "Cave of Fear", about which the Russian media wrote a lot in the 1990s. Eyewitnesses said that this vertical shaft was "created in time immemorial by whom and when - no one knows." Several attempts to reach the bottom of the "bottomless" cave then failed, as the researchers experienced "inexplicable fear." Another descent ended with the caver allegedly cutting the ropes and staying forever in the mine. Regarding the "inexplicable fear", some believed that all the gas that had accumulated below was to blame, and the specialists of "Cosmopoisk" put forward a version that there may be water at the bottom of the mine, which seeping inside, creates in an almost perfectly flat round (almost organ) pipe of the mine infrasonic vibrations affecting the subconscious of people. It was not possible to verify the information during the Kosmopoisk expedition in June 1999: the mine was found, but the entrance to it turned out to be littered with logs and earth.

In September 2007, after 8 years, they finally managed to reach the entrance in a few days of excavation. On September 30, when a hand could barely stick through the excavated hole, a video camera was lowered down, which broadcast the image to the monitor. An 18-meter cable was not enough to the bottom of the shaft, however, the camera was able to see that the walls of the shaft have 2 small lateral branches, and at a depth of more than 10 meters, 2 palms with spread fingers were imprinted on the wall. The diameter of the tunnel is about 150 cm (initial rumors were from 1 to 2 m), there are no traces of formwork, the surprisingly well-preserved round walls consist only of local soil (eyewitnesses initially claimed that the walls were burnt). After it became clear that there were no harmful gases below, the hole was widened, and caver I. Kommel went down. He found outthat "side passages" very quickly end in dead ends. It turned out that at a depth of 36 meters, the mine was filled with water. It was hoped that the mine was connected to the nearby sea, however, the water turned out to be fresh. The next day, October 1, 2007, an underwater television camera with a powerful underwater flashlight went under the water. Initial viewing of the video on the spot did not reveal anything interesting: some indistinct floating spots, glands under water, possibly attacked from above. However, already on a good monitor, after sunset, the camp managed to make out what kind of pieces of iron it was. It turned out that there are 3 thick-walled iron barrels with welded-on locks at the bottom. Moreover, from the location of the barrels, it was clear that they were specially lowered and installed vertically, and not chaotically and in a hurry dropped from above. A side passage or a niche was clearly visible next to the barrels. The search was already taking a different turn. What mysterious barrels, who and why hid them here?.. During the next attempt on October 2, 2007, a speleologist in scuba gear with a small balloon was sent down. The bodies of the climbers (climber) were not found below. After some hesitation, the barrels were examined, one of them was even raised up … The barrels were empty.

Who and why hid them at the bottom of a deep mine remains unclear. Presumably, the cache was prepared during the Great Patriotic War (the Nazis were then only one tank throw from the cave) or in Grazhdanskaya. But somehow the secret of the "Cave of Fear" was revealed. No one in the cave has died in the last half century (since the war). A possible reason for the unconscious fear that supposedly arises inside the cave is the appearance of resonant oscillations of the order of ten Hz on the smooth round walls of the tunnel. In fact, the 1.5 meter round tunnel is an almost ideal organ pipe for infrasonic vibrations. The source of such fluctuations can be water seeping into the tunnel from underground sources. At the time of the expedition, there were no showers in the mountains and therefore the water level in the tunnel did not change, therefore, and there could be no hesitation (therefore, an end to this story can be put only after the next expedition in the rainy season).
