At the end of 2019, scientists at the University of California Stanford found that human aging is an ongoing process. According to the results of their research, it turned out that physical aging of the body occurs in three stages. The first of them occurs at 34 years old, the second at 60 years old, and the third at the age of 78 years. Not much time has passed since this discovery, but recently the same group of scientists managed to reveal another detail about the aging process in humans. In the course of their research, they were able to discover four main types of aging, including the immune, metabolic, hepatic and nephrotic. Sounds complicated, doesn't it? It's actually pretty simple.

The discovery of scientists from Stanford University was reported in the scientific publication Medical Xpress, which usually publishes the results of research on medical topics. According to the head of the study, Michael Snyder, they already knew that the human body can give clear hints of aging. For example, many older people have high cholesterol levels. But scientists were interested in what other ways our body can hint that it is aging.

How do people age?

To find out, scientists conducted a study with 43 healthy men and women, aged 34 to 68 years. By studying the analyzes of their blood, stool and urine, scientists have studied for two years exactly what processes take place in their bodies. The study was conducted for only two years for a reason. By setting such a small framework, the researchers wanted to avoid the possibility that something would change in people's bodies due to a possible change in diet or exercise.

In total, scientists managed to collect about 600 signs that hint at the aging of the body. After examining and sorting them, the researchers identified four types of aging, which were mentioned at the beginning of the news. With the metabolic type of aging, people have an increased risk of developing diabetes mellitus and aging of the body is mainly associated with this ailment. People with immune-type aging are susceptible to inflammation and over time they begin to suffer from autoimmune diseases. The metabolic type of aging means the appearance of problems with the metabolism in the body, and the nephrotic type means the occurrence of kidney disease.

The researchers noted that people can experience several types of aging at once. But one of them will definitely dominate the others. In the future, the authors of the scientific work want to do even more research in order to get more specific results. They hope that their work will ultimately help overcome old age.

However, there are many ways to slow down aging even now. Despite the fact that scientists from Max Planck University assure that the rate of aging mainly depends on heredity, we all have the opportunity to give up bad habits and start leading a healthy lifestyle.
