Video: Is Halloween for Christians 2024, March
Anonim

Have you never stood at a freshly dug grave, mourned your relatives and friends? Is death really just Halloween skits, without the thought of the terrible Judgment of Christ?

The last days of October. All restaurants, clubs and cafes in the city are renovating their interior. On every wall and in every corner there are "handmade" spiders, skulls, skeletons, coffins, ghosts, "Jack's lamps". Schools organize contests for the best "pumpkin", hold concerts and evenings with all kinds of infernal and grave themes. The streets are strolled by young people, painted like the dead and ghouls. The pre-celebration of Halloween, a large-scale commercial project of our time, begins.

The holiday appeared in the pre-Christian era among the Celtic tribes of England, Ireland and northern France (Gaul). The ancient Celts believed that life is born out of death. In autumn, when the time of cold, darkness and death began, they celebrated the beginning of the new year. On the night of November 1, the Celts glorified the pagan god Samhain (Samayin), the Lord of Death.

Celtic priests lit a fire and made sacrifices. The Druids believed that if they please Samhain with sacrifices, he will release the souls of the dead on a "business trip" to their homes. This is where the costumes of ghosts, witches and other demonic paraphernalia, symbolizing communication with the afterlife, originate.

Subsequently, the Celts adopted Christianity. The church in these lands in its struggle against paganism tried to use a "substitutionary" strategy. Instead of a pagan holiday in honor of death and the dead, the Church established All Saints' Day.

It is worth noting that Christianity has acted in this way always and everywhere. For example, in the spirit of the same “substitutionary” strategy, the Church chose a date for the celebration of Christmas. In the same way in our country Kolyada and Shrovetide became "churched".

It is interesting that Catholics now celebrate this holiday not depending on Easter (as we do), but on a fixed date - November 1st. The day after All Saints Day, Western Christians celebrate All Faithful Dead. It is also quite logical. “The pagans disturbed the souls of the departed, and we pray for their repose. They have nothing to do here. Let them dwell in the abodes that God has prepared for them,”- as it were, the church thought answered the pagan holiday.

From the name of the holiday of All Saints comes the word Halloween - All Hallows 'Even, which means "All Saints' Eve". Over time, the phrase was reduced to "Hallow E'En".

And then something happened that took place in Russia as well. Where Christianity weakened, paganism intensified. It mixed with Christianity, and returned in new, outlandish forms.

We have expressed this, for example, in the celebration of "Ivan Kupala" - the combination of the memory of the Nativity of John the Baptist with the folk holiday of the Eastern Slavs, dedicated to the summer solstice and the highest flowering of nature. The same processes were at work in the west. The feast in honor of the pagan god Samhain was connected with the day of All Saints. More precisely, the church day of All Saints was gradually ousted from the life of the once Christian society, and it was replaced by the external forms of the ancient pagan festival. So the current version of Halloween gradually appeared - tomfoolery in demonic style on the eve of November 1st.

Since the end of the 20th century, the holiday has been commercialized and has become a well-traded export commodity. Just like his "friend" - the so-called "Valentine's Day".

Non-believers do not see anything wrong with indulging in a game of "ghosts", dancing with the "dead", painting their own children as ghouls, and so on. If neither God nor demons exist - why not play pranks in this way?

In general, there are no questions to atheists on this topic. If you do not want to believe in God, no one will force you. Although, for such people there is a proposal to think about the following.

The former atheists - the communists - also did not believe in God. But at the same time, for some reason, they could not be passive about religion. They made fun of other people's faith in every way; equipping the Komsomol detachments so as not to let believers into the temple; arranged blasphemous "Komsomol Easter", disrupted the divine service. By this, they proved not so much unbelief as hatred of Christianity.

Halloween - flirting with the demonic world - is also not religiously neutral. Isn't that clear? If you are an honest and dispassionate atheist, then your position that is indifferent to religion should extend to all aspects of this issue. Why repeat the pagan rituals associated with the cult of the dead if you don't believe in the afterlife? Why get involved in devilry, if all this "no"? Doesn't it turn out that you are worshiping the devil, just not giving yourself the trouble to think about it?

With people who position themselves as believers, the conversation is completely different. When a baptized person wearing a pectoral cross somehow participates in the pagan mysteries of Halloween, perhaps his Christianity ends here. I remember an old anecdote: "Rabinovich, either put on your panties, or take off the cross."

“What does light have to do with darkness? What is the agreement between Christ and Beliar? Or what is the complicity of the faithful with the infidel? (2 Cor. 6: 14-15) - wrote the apostle Paul to the Corinthians, who at times did not distinguish between Christianity and paganism. I would like to say the same to our compatriots, who call themselves Christians, but participate in the games of pagan origin.

How can a Christian soul, who loves the Lord Risen from the dead, be involved in the cult of the dead? What fun can a disciple of Christ feel from the symbolism of death, from all these skulls, ghouls, witches, ghosts? Can a believer take part in a festival that has clear pagan origins and an idolatrous essence? Can he be considered harmless and innocent?

I would like to ask them: have you really never stood at a freshly dug grave, and did not mourn for relatives and friends who have passed away? Does the theme of death set you up only for black humor and Halloween skits, but does not make you think that we will all go to the grave and appear at the Last Judgment of Christ? Is it not clear that an Orthodox person, in principle, cannot celebrate pagan holidays, even if in a joking manner?

Strange inconsistency, irresponsibility, childishness, apathy and lethargy in religious matters - this is not only a characteristic of the modern average person, but, alas, Christians as well.

Hence all our troubles. “As in the body there is a soul, there are Christians in the world” - it is written in the “Epistle to Diognetus”. If baptized people do not go to the temple of God on Sundays, but openly celebrate Halloween and Valentine's Day - what else to talk about? And what to expect from the Lord, except for the punishments sent for our admonition?

The Halloween epidemic is a litmus test of the spiritual state of our society. And no poultices like European integration or the "United Local Church" can heal this grave patient. It takes real faith in Jesus Christ and repentance. Otherwise we are finished, gentlemen. Whoever we call ourselves: the titular nation, the European people, the most ancient ethnos, and the most, most Christian state in the world.

Soon November 1st. Halloween at the door. "Holiday", which presents a good opportunity for every person to testify either about his Christianity, or about its absence. However - if the topic of Christianity in general interests him seriously.
