The worship of Satan has existed since ancient times. Sects of Satanists and devil worshipers operate in almost all countries. In Russia, they, in their current form, appeared in the days of the former USSR.

Soviet Satanism

Sects dedicated to Satan existed in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Orel, Yaroslavl, Astrakhan and other large Russian cities even before the revolution. And after it, many of them continued their activities.

In the 30s of the last century, esoteric organizations began to be seriously persecuted by the authorities, and gradually their activities practically disappeared. Moreover, their leaders mostly lived abroad.

It is believed that the first satanic sects of the Soviet era appeared in the early 1980s, at the very end of the "stagnation". But in fact, it became known about them even earlier, in the mid-70s. The largest of the Soviet satanic sects was the Order of Satan, which in 1986 split into many small organizations.

Most of these organizations were young people. It is difficult to say what led them to worship Satan … Perhaps it was just a manifestation of rebellion against existing reality. Perhaps they hoped that the protection of the dark forces would allow them to receive some kind of life benefits. And someone could seriously believe that Evil has more power than the forces of Good …

The religion of death

The Satanists' faith is based on the denial and perversion of Christian values. So, it is customary for them to read prayers “on the contrary”, to carry out religious rituals in a distorted form. If religion refers primarily to the spiritual principle of man, then Satanism promotes, first of all, indulgence of animal instincts. That is why meetings of sects are sometimes accompanied by the most real sexual orgies.

Some Satanic groups are relatively harmless. For example, they limit themselves to organizing gatherings in cemeteries, sacrificing animals (cats or rats) and drinking their blood … But there are also those who pose a real danger. They set fire to Orthodox churches, kill priests, or sacrifice ordinary people.

Take, for example, the "transitional" 90s. So, in April 1996, in Severo-Zadonsk, Tula region, Satanists sacrificed a 49-year-old man and a 15-year-old teenager. The first was forcibly brought to the house of 75-year-old Z. Kuzina and her 43-year-old son, who held the post of "spiritual mentors" of the sect, were tied to a table and stabbed to death. The other was tied to a tree and beaten to death with hammers.

On September 19, 1998, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, 17-year-old Aleksey Shevaldin and 16-year-old Yevgeny Platov, who were members of the satanic sect "Black Brothers", committed the murder of 12-year-old Ilya Belov. As a result of the supposedly magical rite, the teenager was stabbed twice in the stomach and cut off his head with a ritual sword. Thus, the two assassins hoped to move "to a higher level of initiation."

On September 2, 1999, the St. Petersburg GUVD detained four members of the Satanist sect on suspicion of ritual murders of at least 12 people. The defendants soon confessed that they had indeed killed people, and then they ripped off the skin from the corpses and placed it in an alcohol solution.

From "extreme" to suicide

Today in Moscow alone there are about 30 satanic sects. They recruit their followers at rock concerts, where thrill seekers usually gather, and actively use narcotic and psychotropic drugs for psychological impact.

Bringing cultists to justice is not easy. They carefully study Russian legislation so that they cannot be "hooked". And for the commission of ritual murders, mentally unhealthy people are often used, who are declared insane in court.

In recent years, Satanists have been active on the Internet. If you type in the relevant keywords in a search engine, you will find a ton of sites whose names include the words "Satan", "devil" or "black magic". These often include prohibited "death groups" and "suicide clubs". Their leaders are masterful in mind processing techniques. They look for people with problems (and there are many of them in our time) and skillfully persuade them to commit suicide. Or they promise to provide all possible assistance in this in exchange for the bequest of property (for example, an apartment).

Sects know how to cleverly hide their ends in the water, and it is not so easy to prove that the activity of one or another of them is destructive. Alas, they have always been and will be …
