Researchers of anomalous phenomena told reporters about a strange ancient Sumerian burial called the "great death pit", located in the city of Ur (located in modern southern Iraq) - one of the most magnificent cities on our planet in the past. Ur is the birthplace of the prophet Abraham and is mentioned in the Old Testament as well as in Sumerian texts. The city was founded in the 5th millennium BC, and destroyed in the 4th century BC.
Scientists studied the "great pit of death" from 1922 to 1934. Archaeologists managed to find a large number of dead bodies there, which were carefully laid after death.
Experts have discovered tombs and sunken underground courtyards that merged with the surface. Almost immediately it was possible to find out that the “great death pit” is the burial place of a ruler or a rich person, and it turned out that 74 people were sacrificed with him.
The remains of six people were found at the entrance to the pit. They were wearing helmets, and weapons lay next to them. The rest were laid out in different parts of the burial. Particularly prominent was the body of one of the bodies - a woman dressed more richly in comparison with her servants. It is believed that she was the most important person with whom her servants were buried alive.
The circumstances of the death of these people remain a mystery. According to scientists, they could have been killed by poison.
