Several tens of thousands of people go missing in Russia every year. A small number of them after a while are declared alive and unharmed, the remains of the majority of the disappeared people are found after a certain time by police officers. However, there is one category of missing persons, whose disappearance forever remains a mystery both for eyewitnesses and people close to them, and for representatives of law enforcement agencies

He was just here …

One curious criminal case has been preserved in the archives of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Sverdlovsk Regional Executive Committee. As follows from his materials, in the fall of 1972, a middle-aged man disappeared in a bus moving along one of the city streets of Nizhny Tagil, in full view of several dozen passengers. A survey of witnesses to this incident and the wife of the missing person showed the following: on that September day, a strong thunderstorm with a downpour suddenly broke out. A married couple rode on the back of the bus, discussing something animatedly. In his hands, the man held a nickel-plated metal pipe. During another flash of lightning, which, as it seemed to many, struck in the immediate vicinity of the bus, a slight crack was heard in the cabin, after which the man literally disappeared into thin air, and the nickel-plated pipe fell to the floor. The wife of the missing man saidthat at the moment of her husband's disappearance, she felt a wave of intense cold wash over her …

Another similar story happened on Lake Baikal in 1984. Then, on a fine summer day, dozens of tourists and vacationers witnessed how an unusual bluish haze suddenly clouded the sky on the horizon, and fog began to creep over the surface of the lake, which was rapidly approaching the shore. One of the vacationers, a middle-aged man who was in the water at that time, took a few steps to the opposite side from the sandy shore - and he was suddenly covered by a glossy swirling cloud for several seconds. When the wave of fog subsided, the man was no longer in that place. Many hours of searches, begun by divers almost immediately after his disappearance, did not yield any results.

Missing

In the early eighties of the last century, Artemy Drozdov from Novosibirsk became a participant and witness of the tragic and inexplicable events that happened to his friend. One summer he and Dmitry (that was the name of Drozdov's friend) went fishing on the Olshanka River, which is fifteen kilometers south of Iskitim. Despite the weather suitable for fishing, there was no bite, and soon the friends began to gather home. Drozdov withdrew to the bushes due to little need, when suddenly he heard wheezing and groans. He ran ashore and saw that his friend, still sitting over a low cliff, was writhing in convulsions. The skin on his face, neck and arms glowed with a pale yellowish light, as if many bright lamps were lit inside the man. Artemy rushed to his friend, but before he could reach Dmitry a few dozen steps, the man sitting on the shore disappeared …

"Damn" places

Quite a few facts of mysterious disappearances are associated with places that are popularly called "pernicious" or "devilish". Notorious, these territories keep many secrets and legends about the mysterious events that took place there at different times. So, the legend that has come down to our days says that in the 15th century, a huge Dzungar army invaded the territory occupied by the Altai tribes, and moved along the Great Hunting Route (the present Chuysky tract) to the north. The Dzungars destroyed everything in their path, burning villages and easily dealing with the small military detachments of the Altai. The Altai hero Omulchak gathered boys, men and old men who were capable of holding weapons from all the settlements, and moved towards the enemy in order to engage in an unequal battle. The two troops met at the Semin rapids of the Sarlyk ridge. In the predawn fog, the innumerable Dzungarian army, bristling with spears, flashing armor and raising clouds of dust with the hooves of horses, went on the attack. The Dzungars were already at the distance of an arrow's flight, when suddenly a thick veil of fog cut them off from the Altai for a short time. And when the fog cleared, Omulchak saw that the gentle slope of Sarlyk, along which an avalanche of enemy soldiers was rushing, was empty …

The Ilimsk bogs in the southeast of the Irkutsk region have long enjoyed a very bad reputation among the local population. According to legend, at certain times of the year, namely on the day of Ivan Kupala, when vile and fog envelop the surroundings, there are cases of mass disappearance of people. According to local legend, at the beginning of the 20th century, it was here, along with a train of furs, that a certain merchant Khlymov disappeared without a trace. Old-timers recall from eyewitness accounts that twelve heavily laden carts, following a narrow but thoroughly beaten path, seemed to have disappeared into the air a kilometer from the village of Sakhnovka …

During the construction in 1939 of one of the Kraslag camps, 150 kilometers north of Krasnoyarsk, on a large territory surrounded by swamps and known among the local population as the Devil's Kurgan, a whole brigade of prisoners disappeared without a trace, together with a

platoon of NKVD troops guarding it. During the investigation into this fact, no evidence was found to indicate the escape of such a large, heavily guarded group of convicts. Together with the people, wheelbarrows, a trenching tool and carts with horses disappeared. The investigators were quite surprised and puzzled by the fact that on the territory where the construction work was carried out, only headdresses remained of the people, in an amount equal to the number of the special contingent and security.

Different versions of the same phenomenon

The phenomena of the inexplicable disappearance of people were known for many centuries. So, in the Novgorod chronicles of the 17th century, it is mentioned about the terrible disappearance of the monk of the Kirillov monastery Ambrose during a meal. The Suzdal chronicler of the 15th century tells how the scandalous merchant Manka-Kozlikha disappeared in the capital city of the Suzdal principality on the square on a market day in full view of all honest people, to which the witnesses of this mysterious event noticed that, they say, "the devil took her"

Indeed, it was previously believed that such mysterious phenomena are associated with the action of evil spirits. As if the devil, or even the devil himself, takes the people he likes to the underworld. However, since the beginning of the 20th century, more and more scientists and researchers began to incline to the idea that the reason for this is some still unexplored processes of the material world.

In the middle of the last century, the hypothesis that representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations are responsible for the mysterious disappearances of people became very popular. In fact, a number of facts of abduction of people by unidentified flying objects are known. However, the number of such cases is negligible. In the early nineties of the XX century in the Urals, a brochure by the Yekaterinburg scientist, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences E. T. Sotnikov. In his small work, the researcher claims that the reason for the sudden mysterious disappearances are some space-time faults, which can appear spontaneously under the influence of geomagnetic forces in different parts of the planet, and also appear with a certain frequency in the so-called "dead" places. Voronezh researcher Sergei Ktorov, developing

People disappear into the fog

Sotnikov's hypothesis and based on the theory of the existence of parallel universes in the scientific world, expresses the opinion that the phenomena of sudden disappearance of people occur in short-term moments of contact of the opposite universe with our world. In these moments, lasting a negligible fraction of a second, the object "falls" into another world. The most important danger of this phenomenon, according to S. Ktorov, is that one day our entire world may end up in a parallel universe. Just what is waiting for us there, no one can predict.
