Everyone knows that there are places on Earth where various mysterious phenomena constantly occur that science cannot yet explain. These are the so-called anomalous zones, and on their territory more often than anywhere you can meet manifestations of poltergeists, mysterious creatures and, of course, unidentified flying objects
In all ages, people have called these places bad or damned. What is the nature of the anomalous zones and how many of them are on the planet, no one can say - after all, some zones "die", instead new ones appear, which can change their location, wandering on the surface of the Earth.
The most famous
Everyone has heard of such Russian anomalous zones as Samarskaya Luka, Medveditskaya ridge in the Lower Volga region, Mountain of the Dead in the Northern Urals, "M's triangle" near the village of Molebka, on the border of the Khertsky and Shalinsky districts of the Perm and Sverdlovsk regions … The most, perhaps The "popular" anomalous zone is not located in Russia, but between Bermuda, Florida and the island of Puerto Rico. This is, of course, the Bermuda Triangle.
But there is another mysterious territory that not everyone knows about, but it is there that incredible events take place, which we will talk about today.
Mysterious disappearances
Between Australia and the island of Tasmania is the Bass Strait, which connects the Tasman Sea with the Indian Ocean. The strait is 490 kilometers long, 224 kilometers wide, and up to 97 meters deep. The strait is named after the English physician and traveler Georg Bass, who discovered it in 1797. This place is sometimes referred to as the "South Australian Triangle". It is here that most often (almost every year) ships and airplanes disappear without a trace, unidentified flying and underwater objects perform their mysterious maneuvers over the stormy waves of the strait and in the deep sea. Moreover, it is in these places that UFOs show increased attention to aircraft, approaching them at a dangerous distance, and sometimes accompanying them for quite a long time.

The giant "cigar" disappeared under water
Here are just a few mysterious cases that occurred in the Bass Strait region, which were reported not only by the Australian, but also by the world press.
In 1886, the Melbourne newspaper "Argus" published a sensational material in which it was told how a giant "cigar" hung over the strait for about ten minutes, which was observed by many residents of coastal settlements. Ten minutes later, the "cigar" slowly sank into the waves and disappeared into the depths. Despite the fact that there was strong waves in the strait, the water remained motionless at the site of the immersion of the cigar-shaped object for several minutes.
July 1920. The schooner "Saint Amalia" disappeared in the strait. In search of her, two ships went out, which did not find a schooner or the slightest trace of a shipwreck. A plane with two pilots on board flew to the alleged area of disappearance of "Saint Amalia". After some time, the pilot reported that he saw "big fire", after which the connection was interrupted. The search ships returned to the shore with nothing, and the plane, apparently, became the prey of the insatiable strait.
October 19, 1934. The plane "Miss Hobart", on board of which, in addition to the mail, there were 12 passengers, disappeared without a trace in the strait. Communication with him was interrupted near the Ville-son-Promontory peninsula.
February 1944. The crew members of the Beaufort bomber, flying at an altitude of 1500 meters over the Bass Strait, observed a mysterious black object, behind which a blinding sheaf of sparks crumbled. The object approached the Beaufort by 50 meters and followed it for about half an hour. During this time, radio communication and orientation devices did not work. Then, as if having completed a task known to him alone, the object disappeared, having previously developed a speed, according to the estimates of the pilots, about 750 kilometers per hour.
A mysterious cloud, a shining ball and a star …
However, the anomalous zone in the area of the Bassov Strait acquired truly worldwide fame after the event that took place on October 21, 1978.
At 18.45 Roy Mainfield from Melbourne photographed the sunset over the Bass Strait. Later, having developed the film, he saw a strange cloud on several negatives, as if flying out of the ocean. After analyzing the negatives with a computer, Roy found that the "cloud" was moving at a speed of about 300 kilometers per hour, and in the direction opposite to that in which the other clouds were moving.

Around the same time, two friends on the western outskirts of Melbourne saw a shining ball moving across the sky.
On October 21, at eight o'clock in the evening, residents of Ringwood, an eastern suburb of Melbourne, observed an object in the northwest that resembled a five-pointed star, flying northeast at an altitude of about 900 meters. White lights pulsed at the ends of the star's rays, but the center was especially bright. At the time of the object's passage, strong interference occurred in all working radios of Ringwood.
And the residents of Kunsklift, located on the other side of the bay southwest of Melbourne, saw in the sky "a madly spinning wheel that shimmered with all the colors of the spectrum."
At half past nine in the evening in Blackwood, northeast of Cape Otway, all televisions suddenly stopped broadcasting, their screens rippled. At this time, several people watched as an object pulsating with red and green light flashed completely silently in the northeastern part of the sky …
He is playing some kind of game with me
On that day, at 18 hours 19 minutes, 22-year-old pilot Frederic Valentich took off in Cessna-182 from Melbourne and headed for King Island. At 19.06, Valentich informed the controller of the Melbourne flight service, Stephen Robie, that he saw an airplane above him, the type of which was difficult to determine. “Melbourne, he is approaching me from the east,” the pilot said. - He is playing some kind of game with me - he flew over me three times with great speed, then returned! I make a right bank and he turns over me! Green light emanates from it. My engine does not pull, I have to go to land. It is frozen. This is not an airplane!.."
These words Valentich uttered at 19.12, after which the connection was interrupted. The search for the missing Cessna and her pilot continued until October 25, but were unsuccessful.
UFO victim
NASA specialists, studying the tape recording of the radio exchange, found that during the last 17 seconds, a mysterious rattle was recorded on the tape, in which 36 different tones are caught, differing from each other.
Gradually, NASA came to the conclusion that Valentich was the victim of a UFO. Since there is no trace of the plane crash, it can be assumed that the pilot was abducted along with his plane by a giant aircraft of extraterrestrial origin. Perhaps the strange grinding, recorded by the tape, could have been the result of Cessna's contact with a UFO.
Aliens Spread Nets
This case has long become a classic in UFOlogy, and we would not have returned to it again if the appearance of unidentified flying objects had not recently become more frequent over the Bass Strait. In the summer of 2004, the crews of ships following through the strait saw a strange cloud on the horizon, as if rising from the water. In 2005, the Melbourne police were contacted by people who watched glowing balls and a five-pointed star in the sky over the city, and at the beginning of 2006, in the area of the strait, either plunging into the water or soaring upward, a multicolored rotating "wheel" performed mysterious maneuvers.
Local airline pilots, who have heard about the sad story of Frederic Valentich, exchange jokes about aliens setting up nets in order to grab another victim. All jokes, but there are hardly many pilots now who fly over the Bass Strait with a completely calm heart.
