On the memorial complex "Stele of Military Glory" in Rostov-on-Don, the name of the 230th Red Banner Infantry Regiment of the NKVD troops of the USSR was recently carved, with which historians associate some mysterious events that took place on the Don Island Zeleny during the defense of the Cossack capital.
"The perpetuation of the memory of the military unit of the NKVD is especially significant for the current servicemen of the Red Banner Regiment for Controlling the North Caucasus Regional Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, which is the successor to the glorious military traditions of the 230th Red Banner Regiment of the NKVD Troops," the commander of the North Caucasus Regional Internal Command troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Colonel-General Yevgeny Vnukov.
The soldiers and commanders of the 230th Red Banner Infantry Regiment of the NKVD troops of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War participated in the liberation of Rostov-on-Don from the Nazi invaders, fought saboteurs in the rear of the army, ensured public order in the Rostov region and Krasnodar Territory. In 1943, the regiment was the first in the NKVD to be awarded the Order of the Red Banner for "special bravery, dedication and courage shown in the defense of the Fatherland."
Strange visions
A special page in the regiment's biography is the defense of the small Zeleny Island, dividing the Don River into two branches near the city of Rostov-on-Don. Mysterious rumors have been circulating about him for a long time. The local press even called the island "a little Bermuda." Old-timers say that this place has gone back to bad reputation since the mid-1920s, when the townspeople began to pass from mouth to mouth horror stories about ghosts, drowned people who came to life on the island and even mermaids. In our time, the most widespread rumors are that an alien ship once crashed here or a meteorite crashed into the soil. Before the Great Patriotic War, the NKVD troops occupied the island and took something out of there in trucks at night. But they didn't. In the fall of 1941, the Nazis broke through to Rostov. An entire regiment of the NKVD stood to death, defending the deserted island,and died almost in full force, giving the opportunity and time to experts to take out from here to the rear something supposedly mysterious.
Local residents tell many stories about “strange” phenomena. Most of them feature some kind of virtual black stone. Why virtual? Because neither I nor many scientific expeditions managed to find it. Meanwhile, "witnesses of the phenomena" claim that they not only saw this stone, but also felt its effect on themselves, as a rule, of a neuropsychic nature.
For example, a group of young Rostovites testified in the local press that once, having sailed to the island by boat for a picnic, the guys came across an unusual black stone, which seemed to be hanging several centimeters above the ground. It began to make an unpleasant buzzing sound. The ground underfoot began to vibrate, and the outlines of objects around it seemed to "flow", blurred. All this caused excruciating headache and a feeling of panic in the children. They scattered about. And they calmed down only an hour later, when they gathered in a boat and sailed from the island for a decent distance. A few days later, the guys dared to visit the island again, but they did not find the stone and did not experience any unusual sensations.

An even stranger story happened to the Rostov family. Father, mother and six-year-old daughter were vacationing on the island. While the parents were busy with the fire and cooking, the daughter disappeared. Father and mother ran the whole island several times, repeatedly ransacked the tent - the child sank into the water. Only two hours later, the girl was found sleeping in … a tent, although ten minutes before that her mother had looked there again. When the girl woke up, she said that when she walked away from the coast, she saw "a black buzzing stone." As soon as I touched it with my hand, I immediately fell asleep. What happened to her next and how she got into the tent, the girl could not remember.
Mutant plants
Even outwardly, the island differs sharply from the neighboring Don shores. It is covered with unusually lush, one might say, gigantic vegetation, as if it has experienced some mutational processes. Here, for example, you can find cherry trees, the fruits of which are 3-4 times more than ordinary ones. Only the locals don't eat them. There is a belief that whoever tastes these berries after a while falls ill with a disease unknown to science and dies in agony.
They also told me about the failed experiment of the Soviet era. In the early 1980s, on an empty island, the local authorities decided to create a “pioneer republic” - a recreation area for schoolchildren. Construction materials were brought in, the foundations of future buildings and sports facilities were erected. But suddenly the work stopped and was never resumed. Moscow writer Alexei Priima, who lived in Rostov until 1973 and is still studying its problems, claims that construction has stopped, as rare chemical elements hazardous to health were found in the soil. Among them are those that are not found on Earth in a free state. Apparently, they are also involved in mutational processes in island vegetation.
I was unable to find documentary evidence of the studies mentioned by Priyma. If the construction was really stopped because of the dangerous concentration of rare earth elements on the island, then the questions arise: where did they come from here? Maybe the NKVD regiment really defended something unusual from the Nazis?
Miracle of feat
On Zeleny you can see a memorial plaque with the data of the 230th NKVD regiment, which stood here to the death during the war years. The aforementioned Aleksey Priyma claims that at one time he got acquainted with the memoirs of a former NKVD officer. They said that before the war on the island there was an emergency landing of a "flying device without wings." The NKVD officers were immediately transferred here, since they took the UFO for a secret fascist plane or rocket. Parts of this "contraption" tried to take out to the rear before the arrival of the Germans.
I turned to the Central Archives of the FSB with a request to give official information about the "UFO" activities of the 230th NKVD regiment. They did not confirm, but did not deny such a possibility either, due to the absence of any documents in general about the work of our bodies with UFOs. As reported in the archive, all these materials were transferred to one closed Ukrainian research institute even before 1991, and after the collapse of the USSR, attempts to return them were unsuccessful.
Nevertheless, I managed to get an archival document "Characteristics of the hostilities of the 230th NKVD regiment" signed by the chief of staff of the 56th army, Major General Arushanyan and the military commissar of the staff of the 56th army, regimental commissar of Brunsburg. In it, in particular, it is noted: “The regiment for 7 days fought fierce battles for about. Green, where the enemy directed the most violent blows. Despite the obvious superiority of the enemy in forces, fire resources, as well as favorable terrain conditions, the regiment courageously and stubbornly defended the area of defense it occupied. The regiment's losses in killed and wounded amounted to more than 90 percent”.
The document says nothing about other tasks of the regiment and "flying saucers". But this makes it no less important and interesting for us, because it testifies to the great miracle of the feat of our people, who defended every inch of their native land to the last drop of blood.
Another version
Recently the Rostov publishing house published a brochure about the 230th shelf. It says the following about the defense of the Green Island.
After the start of the war, namely on November 8, 1941, the regiment was included in the NKVD units for the protection of the rear of the 56th separate army, leaving the defense on the combat sector (island).
On November 21, 1941, the German army occupies Rostov-on-Don. “Before the command of the 56th Separate Army, the question arose about covering the withdrawal of its units, in particular, about the defense of the strategically important bridgehead - the Green Island, which had to be defended at all costs. Having captured the island, the Germans would have the opportunity to flank all the crossings across the Don within the city limits of Rostov and Aksai with fire and prepare a rush to Bataysk. And the command of the 56th army entrusted the 230th regiment with the task of defending this bridgehead. The brochure says: "The warriors swore:" We will die, but we will not give up the Green Island!"
And yet, the Germans break through to the Green Island. The fight begins. Our fighters hold the defense for 8 hours. Then the artillery of our 56th Army begins to hit the island from Bataysk. At the same time, fascist artillery fires at him. At the cost of heavy losses, Soviet soldiers hold the island. And on November 29, the Nazi troops were driven out of Rostov-on-Don.
So, according to the authors of the brochure, the regiment on the island did not pursue any mystical goals. However, it noted that the regiment was formed in 1939 and its task was to protect important state facilities. Old-timers remember that before the war, only a bed factory was located on Zeleny Island, which is difficult to classify as an important state object. In short, some questions remain.
