This amazing and ancient structure still remains a mystery over which scientists from different countries are struggling. A huge group of menhirs located in Great Britain dates back to 3020 BC. Despite several centuries of research, it has not been possible to establish who placed the huge boulders in this order. But a recent study by a group of scientists from various universities, including Oxford, the University of Brussels, and the Natural History Museum in Paris, showed that the creators of Stonehenge may have been ancient Welsh.
Scientists have long been interested in people who were buried at Stonehenge. It was possible to discover ancient cremated remains that were buried near Stonehenge around 3000 BC. It was almost impossible to research them, but the team led by Christopher Snoek made a real breakthrough. Experts studied the remains of 25 skulls that were found in a network of 56 wells in the 1920s.
They used radiocarbon dating technology based on the analysis of the composition of strontium isotopes. We managed to find out that 10 out of 25 people did not live near Stonehenge before their death. The proportions of the highest strontium isotopes in the remains coincided with those of the inhabitants of the UK-West Wales region. There now lives a people calling themselves the Welsh, the descendants of the Celts.
Scientists have established that Stonehenge was built in four stages, which stretched over several millennia. Most of the stones were transported by water on rafts, and some - with the help of rafts and sledges. It is even difficult to imagine the purpose for which several tens of generations of ancient inhabitants of this area built this amazing structure!

There is still no precise evidence of this or that theory of the construction of this monument. It is believed that it could have been built as a burial site, a sanctuary, an astronomical observatory. But none of their theories has been confirmed for sure.
