And no one was surprised when Bloomberg reported that Facebook was paying hundreds of contractors to listen to users' audio messages.
Why do they do it?
In fact, Facebook's challenge "shocked the freelancers" who were not provided with information about where and when the entries were made. The social network only required decryption of voice messages. "Employees listened to the conversations of users, sometimes of vulgar content, but did not know why Facebook needed to decrypt them," Bloomberg sources say.
The American company confirmed this information, but indicated that they stopped decrypting audio messages "more than a week ago." A company spokesman also clarified that users whose messages were listened to, agreed to transcribe their speech in the Messenger application for Facebook. "The contractors checked the correctness of decoding (voice) messages by artificial intelligence Facebook" - explained in the corporation.
However, Bloomberg notes, Facebook did not warn its users about the possibility of listening to audio recordings by third parties, which made contractors question their ethical standards in completing the task.
