Nowadays, you will not surprise anyone with UFO sightings - they are seen everywhere and constantly, and for the most part, if they are not identified, then they do not represent anything remarkable. But the cases of close observations, and even more so of the crashes of unknown (maybe even alien) flying objects, have not pampered the public for a long time.

Therefore, the news from Poland about an event of this kind became quite sensational. For a month, we have been monitoring the ongoing investigation of this story by our Polish colleagues and are now ready to present you with a short summary review.

The described event took place in the morning of May 24, 2012 on the territory of the Mazovian Voivodeship near the villages of Leoncin, Vincentouvek, Gat - in the vicinity of the Kampinos National Park. The first information about the incident came to several Polish ufological forums, as well as to the local regional publication - Gazeta Novodvorska. Here are some eyewitness accounts:

“Today at 9 o'clock in the morning, many people in Leontzin witnessed a large cylinder-shaped object flying over. It was metallic, slightly dull, with a fickle multi-colored glow. Above the road near the village of Gat (at that moment I was a witness together with 8 other people), the object began to smoke, “pushed” (?!) From the ground several times, after which it rose high into the sky and fell on the territory of the Pushcha. I don’t know what it was, but maybe it’s worth gathering people who saw it, as there should have been many witnesses”.

“An hour ago, over Leoncin, I saw a strange object in the sky with my neighbors. It was cylindrical in shape and moved in a strange way. He looked out of order, exuded a strange glow and fell into the forest."

“Metal dust was found in the fields of two of my neighbors, which was left by this something. My neighbor managed to take a picture of this object."

“Today, at about 9 am, I, my driver and a group of people walking along the road saw a strange cylindrical object moving across the sky in a non-straight line. We were most impressed by the fact that this object fell into the territory of the Kampinos Forest. The crackle of breaking trees was heard and a reflection (very similar to a flash) was visible. The object was about 20 m long, was dull silver and surrounded by a multicolored glow. When he flew over a group of people, the soundlessness of his flight was interrupted by a metallic grinding, and something like metal dust fell from the object onto the nearest field”(eyewitness Aneta Durchynska).

Information about the incident also fell into the hands of the local police. According to Shimon Koznevski from the Novodvorsk police, the authorities began to establish the identity of the declared eyewitnesses. Polish ufologists also took up this case. Moreover, there was no unanimity in the assessments of this case. The scene was visited by Janusz Zagorski, a journalist and researcher of anomalous phenomena, who talked with the surrounding residents and a local forester, but no one confirmed the fact of sighting the UFO and its fall. Arkadiusz Miazga in his UFO blog said that he considers the "Leontzin incident" nothing more than another joke.

A different position was taken by the ufological group NPN, which was approached by an alleged direct eyewitness to the events, claiming that he not only witnessed the flight of the object, but also the owner of several strange metal fragments from the crash site. On May 29, the members of this group, together with the TV crew, went to the scene to find out the truth. Already on May 31, information appeared on their Internet portal that they had established contact with eyewitnesses and believed that they were dealing with a real event. Along with this, they had to face clear misinformation aimed at discrediting both the incident itself and the people who were involved in it.

Later, in June, the NPN group reported that most of the residents surveyed had heard something about the event. One of the respondents said that he knows a person who claimed that on May 24, in the vicinity of the village of Gat, he saw an alleged "plane crash." Moreover, he reported this to the voyt (an official of the executive power in the commune), the latter then to the police, and then to the military. The same source said that on May 25, a military unit and civilian SUVs appeared here, but their search was not crowned with success.

Another eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said that together with his mother on May 24, they witnessed the passage of some strange flying object. A day later, there was a brisk traffic in the vicinity of the same SUVs mentioned above. In addition, an acquaintance of the interviewed eyewitness's father even managed to take two pictures of a passing UFO. Exif data of the images showed that the photos were taken exactly on May 24 at 9:07 am. Another snapshot of this object was posted on the Internet, the authorship of which could not be established. It was later reported that there are four photos in total.

The published photographs caused more distrust among the public than they became a documentary argument in favor of the reliability of the incident. They depict a cylindrical and, apparently, a hollow metal object in different phases of its flight - from a rather low position above the ground, to a high-altitude one, slightly different against the sky. Many people have an association with an empty tin can or other similar object, which the jokers filmed throwing into the sky.

The photographs are indeed rather dubious. In addition, according to skeptics, the illumination of the object by the sun's rays is more typical for noon than for the stated morning observation time. Also, judging by the photo, the object could hardly have had the declared length of 20 meters.

Nevertheless, the NPN group believes that skeptics are greatly mistaken, considering this case unworthy of attention, and intends to continue its investigation. As arguments in favor of the reality of the UFO sighting, the following were voiced: 1) in two images, the object is too high in the sky to be thrown up by a tin can; 2) the captured object, upon close examination, does not at all resemble a tin can or any other object known to us; 3) falsifiers of UFO images mainly resort to more classical forms ("plates", balls), and not to something incomprehensible; 4) fakes are mainly made with the expectation of a sensation in the media, but here the researchers faced various obstacles in relation to the publication of photographic materials and disclosure of the name of the author of the photographs.

It remains to be hoped that over time the situation with this mysterious story will clear up and we will find out how right the Polish ufologists were in their assumptions. There are many questions. Was there a UFO sighting in the vicinity of Leonzin on May 24? Did he suffer an accident on the territory of the Pushcha? Is the object actually captured in the published photographs? And most importantly … What about the physical evidence? For some reason, for some reason, no one later remembers the metal fragments and dust that had settled on the field that were initially declared.
