As soon as modern technologies began to be actively used by archaeologists, the number of discoveries increased dramatically. So, thanks to the Lidar system, just a huge number of buildings of the ancient Mayans were found among the impassable jungle, but today we will talk about, perhaps, an even more important discovery made thanks to new technologies, namely, the discovery in India in the state of Maharashtra of petroglyphs more than 12,000 years old left unknown civilization.
Why have these amazing drawings been found just now? Everything is simple. After all, they were buried under a thick layer of soil, and only a special scan showed that priceless artifacts of the past are hidden under the ground.
Archaeologists interviewed residents of all nearby villages (52 settlements), and only five of them heard about drawings of bygone days and considered these places sacred.
According to the latest data, about 400 petroglyphs have been discovered and the work on their study has just begun. Local authorities have allocated 3.5 million US dollars for the work.
And, according to the first data, the approximate age of the petroglyphs is 12,000 years. Also surprising is the fact that scientists can even guess which civilization left these images.

It is only clear that the representatives of the most ancient people were hunters and gatherers, since among the images they did not find a single one that would indicate agricultural activity, only animals and birds.
Scientists were also surprised by the images of hippos. In India, these animals are not found, so scientists have suggested that an unknown people could have got to India from Africa, or in ancient times rhinos and hippos got along well with Indian elephants.
Scientists consider these images to be the oldest petroglyphs on planet Earth, which were left by the civilization of hunters and fishermen.
The work on the study of petroglyphs at the very beginning and what scientists will be able to discover during further excavations is unknown.
