Residents of the English port city of Grimsby in the ceremonial county of Lincolnshire are again talking about the spirit of the boy who died here in the late nineteenth century in a road accident.

Over the past month, the ghost of the so-called lone rider has been seen on the same stretch of road five times. The latest sighting, which took place last Sunday, was even reported in the city's Grimsby Telegraph.

According to legend, in the fall of 1885, the young son of a local fisherman was returning late at night on a horse and collided at high speed with a stagecoach, as a result of which he died on the spot. The boy's father grieved about the loss of his son so much that he could not stand the mental anguish and shot himself. After that, on the very road that today is part of the A18 in Grimsby, in the dark, a ghostly boy on a horse began to appear. They say that the spirit of a child cannot find peace for itself, not because he died so tragically, but because his conscience torments him, because he considers himself guilty of the terrible death of his father.

Perhaps the most famous encounter with the ghost of a lone rider occurred in October 2006. A truck driver was driving late at night on the A18 and suddenly noticed a man on a horse ahead. The man behind the wheel slammed on the brake, and another truck nearly crashed into the car from behind. "I ran over the rider!" The motorist shouted as both drivers jumped out of their cars. He even called an ambulance, but no trace of the hit man on the horse was ever found. It is noteworthy that the driver of the second truck also noticed a rider on the road then, confirming this to the doctors and police who arrived at the scene of the "accident".

As for the recent cases of clashes between the inhabitants of Grimsby and the restless spirit of a child, there are even more terrible among them. For example, one pensioner was driving along the road at night and suddenly saw a translucent horse galloping in the opposite lane with the same translucent person in the saddle. As soon as the car and the rider caught up, the horse suddenly turned around and ran at a gallop behind the car. The frightened driver turned on the gas, but this did not help: the rider did not lag behind. The pensioner managed to break away from the ghostly pursuer only when her car drove onto a well-lit section of the road.
