A bright meteor was seen in the sky over the UK on 17 March. Eyewitnesses described the object moving from south to north as a green or blue flash that lasted for several seconds and left a "magnesium-white trail" in the sky.

The meteor was reported early in the morning at 3:16 GMT (6:16 Moscow time), according to reports from London, Hampshire, Stafford and the East Coast of England. There is also evidence that the meteor was also visible from the territory of Germany.

A video of a meteor from London appeared on the network, filmed with a car DVR camera in the Battersea area (in the south of the city). The meteor was also recorded by the UK Meteor Observation Network camera installed in the village of Church Crookham in Hampshire.

“This is the largest meteor that we have been able to capture. This went on for a few seconds and was visible for hundreds of miles. We received a lot of emails, - said one of the founders of this service, Richard Kasirik. "It's too early to say where it came from, but later we will review the footage taken with our other camera in the north of the country and analyze the data to find out more about its origin and intensity."

In an interview, he added that some fragment may have separated from the meteoric body and fell to the Earth: “In fact, there were two flashes of one meteor - one smaller, the other larger - and the last indicates that the fragment could have survived and fell to the ground.
