Historian Ian Evans searches ancient buildings on the island of Tasmania and throughout Australia for mysterious signs. He is sure that the European settlers in the country widely used rituals and magical techniques. He has already examined 30 old houses. And the first mystical sign was found in the stable of the 50s of the XIX century to the north of the capital of Tasmania.

Anne Kenke, stable owner:

“When Ian first found the signs here, we were all very happy. We constantly looked at them, but did not understand what they meant."

Since then, the researcher has found similar signs across the country. They show that the British settlers did not abandon magical rituals as they used to be. People believed that symbols helped them protect their home from vagrants and fugitive criminals, as well as from aborigines.

Ian Evans, researcher:

"Magic was one of the ways to solve various strange situations in which they found themselves in Australia."

Evans works and lives in Brisbane. He came to the island of Tasmania to inspect several colonial buildings in the south.

“We found a lot of magic signs. We also found surprisingly many burn marks."

For example, there were almost 60 such tracks in the stable. They were made with a burning candle. It is assumed that they were supposed to protect the valuable horses.

“There are a lot of burn marks in the stables of Tasmania. I don’t think my English colleagues examined them from that point of view.”

In total, he studied the buildings of 21 old stables. And only one of them was not found. Enthusiasts come to the rescue.

Researcher of mystical signs:

“I heard about the project, so I went to its Facebook page and read a little, found pictures. Then I started looking and found it."

Now Evans plans to travel to the UK and conduct similar research there.
