The Volkswagen scam was uncovered in September 2015, when it turned out that more than 11 million diesel vehicles around the world were equipped with software that, during tests, underestimated the amount of harmful gases, in particular NOx (nitrogen oxides), emitted dozens of times. to the air. NEDC testing enabled modes and devices that were inactive during normal use. The company acknowledged the fact of underestimating the level of emissions from car sales in the USA and Europe

During the scandal, the Volkswagen concern bought more than 350 thousand cars in the United States. The company spent about $ 7.4 billion for these purposes, most of the cars are still stored at various sites in the United States.

The future of these machines is ambiguous.
