Scientists continue to actively improve artificial intelligence and teach it new tricks. For example, a team of researchers from the United States and India have developed a neural network that can once and for all deprive participants of all sorts of uprisings, rallies and protests, hiding their faces behind scarves, balaclavas and other elements of clothing, of any anonymity. In the future, it will be much more difficult for a person breaking the law to escape justice, hoping to remain anonymous.

This system works by recognizing 14 individual points on the face and measuring the distance between them. Based on the measurements obtained, a design that is unique for each individual person is obtained, which makes it possible to recognize him even in the case when he partially hides his face behind glasses, a beard, a scarf or a mask. To train artificial intelligence, scientists used more than 2,000 images, which depicted both individuals and groups of people. At the moment, the system is capable of successfully recognizing people in 56% of cases, but the results of its work are gradually improving with training.

Yes, the technology is still far from ideal. Nevertheless, a start has been made, and in the coming years it will be much more difficult to hide behind dark glasses or masks than before. The artificial intelligence developed by scientists from the University of Cambridge and the National Institute of Technology of the city of Warangal will be presented to the general public at the International Conference on Computer Vision Workshops 2017, which will open its doors at the end of October this year. The researchers published the results of their work on the Web and anyone can get acquainted with them.
