Sixteen-year-old Danil ANTONENKO from the 11th Lyceum has as many absences from lessons as not all the inveterate failing students have. And the teachers are proud of him. The fact is that he does not get to classes because of travels to world Olympiads. Recently, a boy, a scholar of the President's Fund, was included in the top ten most erudite schoolchildren in Russia.

As a child, he was not at all interested in fairy tales. All except one: about a chemist cat who set up magical experiments. The boy dreamed that he would also become a scientist when he was an adult. But everything happened much earlier …

Self-taught chemist

… Eleven-year-old Danil noticed this book as soon as he and his mother entered the store. On the shelf lay a weighty volume “Chemistry. A guide for applicants . “Ma, buy it, please,” the boy's eyes lit up. He didn’t even want to hear about how “small for such books”. As a result, I persuaded.

And from that day on, the usually noisy Danka was unrecognizable. He quietly sat over the book, as if he had grown attached to it, and read, read. I got a mountain of training manuals at school, started some calculations, and then suddenly signed up for an Olympiad in chemistry. He, the seventh grader, had not even been taught this subject yet, but he volunteered to compete with the tenth graders and bypassed everyone. The little self-taught chemist left the senior classes far behind, first at school, then at city and finally at the All-Russian Olympiad in Astrakhan.

And I rode there in the same bus with physicists and on the way got into a conversation with their leader, Professor Viktor Kryshtop from the physics department. He talked so enthusiastically about magnetic fields and optics, even more interesting than at school, that Danilo suddenly became curious. When the boy returned to Rostov, the first thing he did was go to the library for physics textbooks for the tenth and eleventh grades. All his acquaintances already predicted a career as a chemist for him, and he easily switched to another science.

And again, without teachers and tutors, I mastered the program of three classes. And now he is already the absolute champion of the All-Russian Olympiad in Physics. And then Viktor Gennadievich Kryshtop found him. He congratulated on the victory and suggested: "If you want, I will make a real physicist out of you." Since then, he has been studying with the boy at the physics department absolutely free of charge. The young scientist is mastering the undergraduate program with might and main and has already entered international competitions.

In the summer - to the mountains, in the winter - for certificates

“The slices should be thin,” Danil cuts a lemon, but not for tea. He clearly explains the original experiment from the Taiwan Olympics. On assignment, young scientists had to light a light bulb using citrus. It turns out that lemon juice contains ions - charged particles. It was necessary to guess to put these slices on electrolytes, metal plates, and connect the resulting "sandwiches" with wires to an LED - lamp. In Spain, too, there was an assignment related to electricity, and he took gold everywhere. A hundred medals and diplomas have accumulated, but there is not a single one in a prominent place at home. They are all neatly folded into a box. "Danka does not like to hang them up, she is modest," - smiling mother, Galina Vyacheslavovna. And very soon the young physicist will have the opportunity to enlarge the collection of awards. After the New Year, Croatia will host the largest science Olympiad. A team of five best scientists is being assembled from all over Russia. And Danil, having beaten several thousand rivals, has already entered the number of the first contenders.

But the Rostov smart guy is not at all a flimsy "nerd", fixated only on his studies. He goes in for sports, goes hiking, he especially likes Arkhyz. But he went to the mountains in the summer, and now, wrapped in a blanket, he is preparing for the final round of selection for the Croatian Olympiad.
