In July 1982, into the foundation pit of one of the facilities of the Rovno NPP under construction, into an unexpectedly formed crater … a crane fell through. The case, as they say, is out of the ordinary. A group of specialists, including the geophysicist of the exploration expedition O. Ivanovsky, urgently left Kiev to analyze the state of emergency. He is known as an experienced dowsing operator. Recall that dowsing is one of the mysterious phenomena with the help of which specially trained people find voids underground, water sources, ore deposits, pipelines not indicated on the diagrams, old foundations and even treasures.

The main device of dowsing operators is a wooden flyer or a metal frame. They hold it in their hands and walk slowly across the surveyed area. If there is a void below, a foundation or something else unusual, the frame begins to slowly turn. As a rule, hypersensitive people possess a rare gift of working with a frame. Ivanovsky is one of them. When he walked around the place where the crane had fallen, he instantly determined the cause of the incident by the deflection of the frame: a karst sinkhole.

The experts did not believe him. Despite the fact that the effectiveness of dowsing has been proven in thousands of experiments, there is a persistent element of distrust. Everything is too simple: with the help of some kind of frame - and such accurate data.

However, the mistrust of the specialists was understandable. After all, when choosing a construction site for a nuclear power plant, detailed geophysical studies are carried out. Judging by the available documentation, there could be no question of any karsts under the nuclear power plant.

But the skepticism of his colleagues did not stop Ivanovsky. He continued to search with his frame. Fifteen meters from the hole, he again pointed to the hidden underground karst and even outlined its boundaries on the surface of the earth. At this point, the colleagues on the commission began to smile openly. Say, so close to each other, according to theory, karsts cannot be located. Ivanovsky stood his ground …

The dispute was resolved by heavy night rain. The soil saturated with moisture sank exactly in the place that the operator had outlined. Then, in addition to these, he discovered 14 more cavities. Control drilling fully confirmed his correctness. The construction of the facility was curtailed.
