Canadian journalist and historian Max Wallace found evidence that Heinrich Himmler, Reichsfuehrer SS and organizer of the Holocaust, wanted to stop the genocide of the Jews despite the orders of Adolf Hitler. This is reported by the Daily Mirror.

Wallace said documents found in the archives of a group of New York Orthodox Jews indicate that shortly before the end of World War II, Himmler was trying to save 300,000 people from death in concentration camps. In November 1944, he outlawed the massacre of Jews, and the crematoria and gas chambers at Auschwitz were destroyed.

While most historians believe this was done to hide Nazi crimes from the approaching Soviet army, Wallace is confident that Himmler wanted to make a separate peace with the Western countries of the Anti-Hitler coalition. The Reichsfuehrer hoped in this way to join forces with possible allies in the fight against Stalin and the Bolsheviks, the journalist noted.

It is known that later Hitler learned about Himmler's attempt to hold peace negotiations with Western countries. As a result, the former Reichsfuehrer was stripped of all posts, and an arrest warrant was issued. While attempting to escape, Himmler was caught by a British patrol on May 21, 1945. He died on 23 May during a medical examination after biting through a cyanide capsule in his mouth.
