A baby with two penises was born in Azerbaijan. The first was where it was supposed to be, and the second was growing out of the back.
Dr. Gunduz Agayev, head of the neonatology department at the Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics of Azerbaijan, told about this to medicina.az.
Agaev believes that the boy's extra sexual organ was left from his unborn twin brother. This phenomenon in medicine is called the twin parasite. The second penis, growing on the baby's back in the area of the shoulder blades, had a fully formed appearance and was attached to it something like a scrotum and another small piece of flesh.
Fortunately, this organ connected to the baby's body only through superficial tissues and could be easily removed by surgery, which was done shortly after the baby was born.
After the operation, the boy has only a small scar on his back and is otherwise completely healthy. The name and surname of the child is not called in the press, so that this could not affect his life in the future. Now the baby has already been discharged and is at home with his parents.
Doctors do not know exactly why the phenomenon of twin parasites occurs. One theory is that in the early stages of twin pregnancy, one of the embryos may receive better nutrition than its brother or sister, and therefore the second embryo stops its development and may completely "dissolve" or be "swallowed" by the body of the first twin. In the second case, the body parts of the weaker twin grow to the body of the stronger one, and the baby is born with additional organs: arms or legs, a head, or, as in this case, with an additional penis.
