Portuguese explorers have discovered an underwater pyramid 60 meters high and 8,000 square meters in area near Bank De João de Castro, between the islands of Terceira and São Miguel.

The structure was determined by Diosleciano Smith, based on bathymetric observations. The author of the find does not believe that the pyramid is of natural origin. The government says the case is already being investigated with the support of the Portuguese navy.

Regional Education Minister Luis Duarte Fagundes believes that given its location, the site should not be seen as a product of human labor.

Terceira, also known as "Ilha Lilás" ("Lilac" or "purple" island), is an island in the Azores archipelago, located in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the largest islands in the archipelago, with a population of 56,000 inhabitants and an area of about 396.75 km ². Here is the historical capital of the archipelago, the oldest city in the Azores, a UNESCO heritage site (Angra do Heroísmo). In legends, these places are associated with the mythical Atlantis.
