Some places on our planet can drive a person crazy. Let's try to figure out why, and whether every person, getting here, can be moved by reason.
For example, even modern Paris causes some psychosis, especially for the Japanese, who are too impressionable, and therefore from what they see they often fall into a deaf depression, panic, often even hysteria happens to them. The fact is that the modern capital of France is striking in its inconsistency with what has been written and filmed about it in its entire history. Today Paris is a dirty city of immigrants, and even its diamonds such as the Louvre, Versailles, the Eiffel Tower, the famous Moulin Rouge casino do not save the day.
Jerusalem has a completely different effect on guests, which is why among psychologists such a concept as the Jerusalem syndrome has even been entrenched. What it is? It turns out that some zealous Christians who come here literally begin to feel the presence of God, who most often points them to their sacred mission. What happens next is probably clear to everyone.
For illustration, we will give one of the most striking examples. So, in November 2017, 29-year-old Irishman Oliver McAfee arrived in Jerusalem, who, by the way, was keen on cycling. He originally planned to simply ride his bike down the Israel National Highway. But soon the young man stopped communicating with his relatives, which is why they turned to the police. Israel's law enforcement officers soon found a bicycle and some personal belongings of the Irishman, such as a laptop and even a wallet with money, but later they found something more amazing in the Negev desert - a makeshift church in which pages from the Bible were scattered. The police realized that the British suffered from the Israeli syndrome, and therefore immediately connected psychologists to the search for the disappeared
Note that the crazy 29-year-old gardener was just an exemplary Christian, but at his home in Dromore, Northern Ireland, he did not show, as relatives and friends say, any signs of mental disorder based on faith. And here you go
Another young tourist who came to Jerusalem suddenly imagined himself to be the biblical Samson, especially since he was a physically strong man. So he tried to destroy the Western Wall with his bare hands. Some Christians, getting into this godly chosen city, begin to pray frantically, cut their hair, put on some white clothes (most often using the sheets of the hotel room for this), go out and loudly sing psalms or shout out sermons. Moreover, such insanity can happen, regardless of gender, age and social status of a person.

Psychologists say that Jerusalem syndrome most often affects people with an unstable psyche, and the main treatment in this case is to take the patient out of Israel as soon as possible, preferably home. As a rule, signs of illness (insanity) in this case quickly disappear.
By the way, we just note that the Japanese, who received a shock from what they saw in Paris, recover much longer. Therefore, in Japan, travel agencies even have a psychologist service that prepares tourists before visiting the French capital. True, this does not help all Japanese people, and therefore the Embassy of the Land of the Rising Sun has even established a telephone hotline for its fellow citizens in Paris, thanks to which every Japanese citizen, in case of panic, can turn for help.
