Haris Khusainov, a farmer from the village of Aitmembetovo, Arkhangelsk District, noticed that his cow had grown strangely fat - it could barely crawl through the barn door.

“She was pregnant, but usually cows don't get so fat,” said Khusainov. - A week before the expected birth, we had to stab her. The fruit that we saw inside shocked us - it did not look like a calf, but rather a hippopotamus.

According to the farmer, this is not the first such case in their village. Only here no one can explain the anomaly - some sin on the environment, others are inclined to believe that the evil eye is to blame.

“This is not unusual,” comments Salavat Abdullin, specialist of the Veterinary Directorate of the Republic of Belarus. - This is called fetal dropsy - as a result of impaired lymph and blood circulation, the fetal tissues are filled with serous fluid. This is due not to the poor environmental situation, but to the inactivity of the cow and poor feeding. For example, when instead of good hay they give silage. The cow could have been saved by surgically removing the fetus, but the fetus would have been dead anyway.
