Geophysical weapons are a special type of weapon that uses the energy of natural elements for military purposes. Based on the environment in which these processes occur, the following types of geophysical weapons are distinguished: atmospheric, lithospheric, hydrospheric, ozone, biospheric. The methods by which the geophysical factors are triggered are different, however, the energy that is expended in this case is in any case many orders of magnitude less than the energy released by the forces of nature. It is this type of weapon, according to some experts, will be used in the wars of the future. Currently, no country in the world officially recognizes that it owns such weapons, but in reality, the militarily leading countries are conducting experiments with the aim of creating and testing it.

A special type of geophysical weapon is the climatic weapon. It is sometimes called atmospheric. It is perhaps best known from some published material. This type of weapon is currently considered the most researched, so we can talk about it as the closest to real use. Today, it is known that a number of active reagents [1], being dispersed in the clouds, cause torrential rains over huge areas. Conversely, reagents like propane, carbon dioxide, and lead iodide help to disperse fog. Thus, a targeted impact can cause heavy rains by changing the water regime of water bodies. At the same time, naturally, the passability of roads and terrain will greatly deteriorate, and floods will even occur in low-lying areas. And, on the contrary,By providing forced precipitation at the borders of arid regions, severe droughts can be created in these regions. Delivery of reagents can be done using ground generators or onboard devices that are installed on airplanes and rockets. It should be noted that a type of climate weapon can be a plasma weapon. In this direction, active work began in the USSR back in the 40s of the XX century.

Lithospheric weapons use the energy of the lithosphere - the earth's outer shell, which includes the earth's crust and the upper layer of the mantle. At the same time, the striking effect is manifested in the form of such cataclysms as earthquakes, volcanic processes, faults of geological formations. The source of energy in this case is the tension that exists in tectonically dangerous zones. In particular, with the help of ground-based and underground explosions of nuclear devices of relatively low power, earthquakes can be provoked, which can lead to dire consequences.
