NASA has developed a scenario for the development of events after the alleged collision of an asteroid with the city of Los Angeles, writes Metro.

When NASA chief Charles Boden was asked what to do if an asteroid weighing 14 million tons falls on New York, he replied that he would only have to pray.

After such a statement by Boden, the American space agency decided to find out what would happen if suddenly a smaller asteroid (for example, weighing 800 pounds or 363 kilograms) falls on Los Angeles.

This scenario has been virtually tested so that emergency services can practice their actions in such an emergency. Initially, an asteroid with a probability of collision of 65 percent falls into the lenses of telescopes. Then it disappears from the field of view for 4 months, changing its position in relation to the Sun.

When the asteroid reappears, the chance of a collision is already 100 percent. Then the immediate evacuation of the entire population of Los Angeles is announced.

According to experts, such an asteroid can hit the city within a few hours. Predicting the time, however, is difficult. Therefore, emergency response teams must act much faster than when a hurricane is threatening.

Earlier it was reported about the warning system "asteroid attack", developed by NASA experts.
