In India, surgeons rid a 19-year-old boy of a tumor in his upper jaw, which weighed 4.5 kg. It was reported to be probably the largest of its kind on record.

The tumor was almost perfectly round in shape - 20 cm in height and width. She began to grow at Amar Samad about 10 years ago and has grown so large that she pushed one eye far beyond the orbit and gave the general appearance of the young man an even more frightening and grotesque look.

Because of this tumor, Amar could not eat normally and it prevented him from even swallowing what he managed to put in his mouth. Due to nutritional problems, he developed concomitant health problems, but the teenager was not operated on due to lack of money from his family.

During all 10 years children have bullied the guy and called him "ballhead". Because of this, he practically stopped going out and lived as a recluse in his small village of Konaro in Jharkhand state, East India.

But he was recently agreed to help at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences clinic in Kochi, Kerala. And it's completely free. The operation lasted 14 hours and was performed by a group of 12 surgeons. The tumor was successfully removed without consequences.

Even at the initial examination after the biopsy, the doctors concluded that this tumor is the so-called ossifying fibroma, a tumor growing from the periodontal membrane. The periodontal membrane is the layer of fibrous connective tissue that surrounds the roots of the teeth. According to doctors, the case with Amrat is not common in medicine, since such tumors mainly grow on the lower jaw.

Due to the fact that the tumor severely damaged the guy's upper jaw, he also underwent a reconstruction of the jaw using a piece of bone taken from his own thigh.

“It is due to genetic abnormalities and at first looks like a slight swelling in the jaw. His case is unique, as tumors of this size associated with this disease have not been reported anywhere in the medical literature. In fact, this is the largest specimen of such a tumor in the upper jaw, and the large size always leads to serious complications,”says Dr. Subramania.

The most difficult thing was that the tumor touched the eye and before the operation, the doctors made a 3D version of Amar's face in order to carefully study its location. At first, they wanted to completely remove the eye, but as a result they managed to save it, although it is not indicated whether he can see now. Also, surgeons had to restore the guy's nose shape.

Six months later, Amar will undergo several more corrective operations on his eyes and teeth, but Amar, who has already appeared at the press conference, expressed his gratitude to the doctors and said that now he hopes for a completely new normal life.
