Magic exists everywhere and does not obey any law. Magic is the heart of witchcraft, sorcery and sorcery and has existed for a very long time. Even the savages of the Paleolithic era understood that in the hunt for a bear, a very strong, insidious and dangerous animal, there is something mysterious, inexplicable, magical, religious.

Numerous archaeological excavations indicate the existence of a magical religion in primitive man. No one can name the exact date of the origin of magic. One thing raises doubts - shamanism became its distant progenitor.

SIBERIAN SHAMANS

Although the word "shaman" itself was coined in Siberia, certain features of this magical religion with its rituals can be found in ancient Europe. Such, for example, is the Scandinavian supreme god Odin. Such is the Greek Orpheus, who makes long journeys into the world of the dead. Such is the Karelian - Finnish Väinämäinen, cultural hero and demiurge, wise old man and shaman. Such are many of the prophets and leaders of the North American tribes.

SHAMAN - WHO IS HE?

The shaman is an intriguing and primordial figure in the occult. He is a healer, a priest, and a sorcerer in one person, the soul of the community, which is a single living organism. He repeatedly has to engage in a fierce battle with evil spirits and defeat the demons.

Shamans and shamans are considered mainly connoisseurs and healers, they can easily enchant a person and even kill him. Their vast magical arsenal contains the same amount of mysterious means as in the chest of any sorcerer or witch.

The Manchu word "sama-rambu" means "to excite oneself", "sam-dambu" means to dance. Using a drum, the shaman brings himself to a frenzy or to a state of ecstasy with the help of monotonous drumming and dancing, when, in his opinion, his spirit leaves his body and begins his free, unlimited wanderings. While in a trance, the shaman imitates the sounds of birds and animals: shamans are believed to understand their language. A savage, any primitive person piously believes that the spirit of the shaman actually wanders - either in heaven or in hell.

The shaman achieves his high rank and faith in his power on the part of his fellow tribesmen only due to the fact that in front of everyone he successfully passes through all the tests of initiation.

Sometimes the spirit of a deceased shaman finds refuge in the body of his successor, and then the newly made shaman begins to convulse, cramps, as if he is experiencing death throes. At this time it seems to him that evil spirits are living in his flesh, and his body is chopped to pieces. In a state of trance, he clearly sees such a picture in front of him, and sometimes strange things happen to him: blood appears on the body. The shaman is older. Sometimes one has to experience such a dismemberment three times. The purpose of such a terrible initiation is to "wake up the brain that has fallen into hibernation", to make it see.

A shaman who has successfully passed all the stages of initiation selects for himself a group of spirits - disciples who have passed a certain tempering. In shamanic chants they call him "strength", "retinue" or even "army". It is not uncommon for such helper spirits to appear in the form of birds, fish or animals, while playing symbols of various spheres of the universe.

JOURNEY TO THE WORLD OF SPIRITS

The most common function of a shaman is healing. In addition, to domesticate wild animals, achieve good luck for hunters, monitor the weather, pacify the elements, send babies to childless spouses, conduct fortune-telling rituals, escort the souls of the dead to the underworld under the beats of a tambourine, drive evil spirits out of people. Sometimes for this a shaman has to make a long "journey" into the world of spirits and spend a lot of time on persuading these capricious creatures. If persuasion does not help, then you have to engage in a fight with them.

MIGRATION OF INDIANS

Since the indigenous population of America included the Eskimos and Aleuts, the largest peoples of this country, such as the Quechua, Aymars, Aztecs, Maya, Guarani, Araucania, to some extent, over the centuries of living together on the continent, perceived and mastered certain elements of shamanism. And their priests often imitated the actions of shamans and used all the vast arsenal of their magical means.

When America was discovered and troops of the conquistads began to land on the territory of North America, the local Indians resisted the Christian invaders, while showing courage and cruelty. The conquistadors responded in kind.

As a result of the European colonization of North America, many Indian tribes were either partially or completely destroyed and pushed into regions unfavorable for life with a bad, unhealthy climate, where they still live on their reservations.

Representing the Indians of North America about the world around them, magic, witchcraft, about evil and good spirits, about witches and a sorcerer, they developed mainly during long migration processes and are diverse.

North American shamans have a lot in common with their Siberian counterparts.
