What will happen if the entire population of the Earth is settled in one city? What size will this metropolis be, and will it be able to provide all the resources? Are there real-life examples of cities with ultra-high population density? These and other questions will be answered today by the RealLifeLore channel.

In September, the YouTube channel RealLifeLore posted a video with a story about whether it is possible to settle all the people of the Earth in one single city. The video examines the population density of various cities and looks at examples of real-life overcrowded areas, such as the walled city of Kowloon in Hong Kong. However, this did not satisfy the audience: they are interested not only in what territory would be occupied by all people living on the planet, but also in whether normal (or at least minimally comfortable) life activity is feasible in such a situation.

The channel answered the audience's question with another interesting video. The topic of a mega-city is considered from all sides, because for such a construction, the fate of many factors is important: the population should have free access to clean water, electricity and just food. As a result, one of the most realistic options was a hypothetical construction in Brazil, rising hundreds of meters up, where people will have to eat sweet potatoes until the end of time.

This seemingly rather unappealing scenario is based in part on a real-life project, Shimzu Mega-City Pyramid in Tokyo. Shimzu Corporation plans to build a floating city in Tokyo Bay that can accommodate up to 1 million people. The catch is that while the builders do not have suitable technologies, and therefore construction, according to experts, will begin around 2030 and will be completed by 2110.

As the author of the video says, for people who will have to live in a colossal city, life will not be sugar, especially in comparison with how modern inhabitants of large cities live. On the other hand, the advantage of such a city is that it can exist as a self-sufficient system in a relatively small area, comparable in size to the area of the Faroe Islands in Scotland. So, in the event of a nuclear war, a meteorite strike or any other global catastrophe, humanity has every chance to survive without having to constantly leave the city walls.
