The search for sailors from the Kolskaya drilling rig, who disappeared in the Sea of Okhotsk on December 18, is still ongoing. As of yesterday, 17 bodies were raised from the water. 11 people have already been identified. The relatives of the remaining missing continue to hope for a miracle. And it almost happens

Yesterday at 2 am Galina Viktorovna, the wife of Nikolai Svistunov, a Murmansk resident, received an SMS from her husband's number. Nikolai Vasilievich worked as a ship doctor at the drilling rig and is still listed as missing.

The received message consisted of several characters: * 728 #.

Svistunov's son Dmitry immediately called the MTS operator, who had Nikolai Vasilyevich's phone number registered:

- What is it?!

They confirmed that such a message was actually sent from the doctor's number, but we have no idea what it means (the same was stated to the correspondent, promising to investigate, but at the time of signing the number, no comment was given). Then Dmitry contacted the editorial office of "KP" - Murmansk ":

- We are sure that only father had the phone … How can we find out the meaning of this message?

We passed this information on to the rescuers in Sakhalin.

Promotional video:

“The time of sending the SMS approximately coincides with the time of arrival of the“Smith Sakhalin”vessel to Korsakov with the bodies of the dead on board,” we were told at the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the Sakhalin Region. - However, Svistunov is not among the identified …

According to experts, it is possible that the doctor sent an SMS while still at the drilling rig, and it only reached it when the phone got into the network coverage area. On the other hand, it is unlikely that a mobile phone would “survive” for so many days in cold water without recharging, even if the phone was under a sailor's wetsuit.

We ourselves dialed the number of Dr. Svistunov. Through some noise the answering machine answered: "The number is not serviced," and the connection was interrupted. What was the night SMS after all? A real message from a person somewhere on a raft in the middle of the sea, or a communication error? Let's hope for the best … After all, as rescuers told us, modern technologies allow finding the location of the phone via SMS. Will it be possible to find it among the Sea of Okhotsk?
