The Swiss parapsychologist Lucius Werthmüller is famous not only in his country, but all over the world. In 2006, he organized a convention in Basel to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Albert Hoffmann, the inventor of the drug LSD. This congress received a wide response in Europe. The famous chemist and philosopher Albert Hoffmann was a close friend of Werthmüller. Their friendship, according to the parapsychologist, did not end even after the death of Hoffmann, who passed away in 2008. In any case, during a seance in January 2009, Werthmüller received a small note from the late Hoffmann. She deeply touched Werthmüller and moved him - by the content of the text he was convinced that this was really news from a friend from the other world
"Felix"
Over the past 15 years, says Werthmüller, he has conducted 20 seances involving five different groups of mediums. During the sessions, he had to hear loud otherworldly voices and observe many characteristic manifestations of the otherworldly world, including the materialization of objects. In January 2009, he attended a seance at the Felix Spiritist Circle in the Hanau suburb near Frankfurt. In the spring of last year, Werthmüller met the founder of this circle, Mr. Kai Mugge, a journalist and filmmaker, to whom he was imbued with great trust as a highly professional and decent person. The circle is headed by the doctor Martin Jochen, who is well acquainted with the history and practice of parapsychology.
The meeting of the circle took place in the house of the Mugge family, in a small room on the first floor. The meeting was attended by ten people: six women and four men of different ages. Sitting down at the table, they concentrated, Werthmüller had already heard that in the Fedix circle one can sometimes observe the levitation of the table at which the participants of the session sit, the materialization of objects, knocking and voices coming as if from underground. Herr Jochen told Wertmüller about a recent "package" - a newspaper from 1955 with a note about the appearance of a ghost in one of the Berlin houses.
Mysterious subject
The session, from which the hosts and guests were expecting a lot of interesting things, started somehow sluggishly. Mugge had a very headache that day, and the weak manifestations of otherworldly forces during the session disappointed him. The table seemed to shake under the hands of the participants in the session, but nothing else happened. In addition, everyone felt somewhat constrained by the presence of the Swiss guests. Mr. Jochen was already about to end the unsuccessful session when he suddenly felt (maybe he received a sign from the other world?) That those who had gathered had to sit in a different order.
After the guests and hosts changed places, the table around which everyone was sitting rose and hung from the ceiling. When the table lowered again, everyone wanted to disperse, satisfied with the result. However, Martin Jochen suddenly asked those present to put their hands on the table again. At the same moment, a faint noise was heard, and Werthmüller felt a light object touch his hand and fall somewhere down. They turned on the light. A young woman sitting next to Werthmühller said she felt a falling object slide down her leg. She excitedly assured that this object had definitely fallen to the floor and that it was necessary to look for it.
“I immediately bent down and began to feel the floor under the table,” recalls Mr. Werthmüller. - A minute has not passed, as I felt with my palm some small object and clenched it in my fist.
“I'm alive too! Albert"
We are talking about the so-called physical spiritualism, in which things "sent from the other world" appear as if from nothing. Some parapsychologists have occasionally encountered this phenomenon. At least, the spiritualists themselves claim that levitation, sound signals, and objects materialize directly from the air during their sessions.
Lucius Werthmüller held in his hand a small, solid object the size of a chestnut.
“Having opened my hand, I saw a wax hemisphere with a diameter of about five centimeters in my palm,” says the Swiss. - On closer inspection, it turned out that there is a metal object inside it. We carefully cleaned the flat side of the hemisphere and saw an old silver thimble, sealed with wax. Removing the wax, we found a tiny piece of paper rolled up in the thimble. It was saturated with wax and completely hardened. I began to unfold it and, as soon as I read the first words, I immediately said to Sabina and the members of the circle: "This is from Albert Hoffmann."
We unfolded the note to the end. Only a few words were written there: “Lucius, I contemplate this wonderful nature, it is alive. I'm alive too! Albert.
During his lifetime, Albert Hoffmann wrote letters to Werthmüller many times, and therefore he instantly recognized his handwriting. In addition, Hoffmann often used the verb "contemplate" instead of "look." He attached a special meaning to visual perception and called himself a "contemplator". “Wonderful nature” during his lifetime was one of his favorite topics for reflection.
- I remember well: he always stressed that only nature is able to create something alive. And we humans create only dead things, - continues Werthmüller. “I also remember how we talked many times about the existence of life after death. And even earlier, he discussed this topic with my father. The longer I think about the content of Albert's note, the more meaning I discover in the short message. I do not know of any other words by which I could know Albert even better.
The handwriting has not changed
Werthmüller was driven to Hanau by one of the participants in the session named Sabina. On the way, they got to talking, and the Swiss said that two days before the seance in the Felix circle, Albert Hoffmann was one hundred and three years old. The parapsychologist was very excited and moved by the unexpected gift from his friend and immensely grateful to him.
Werthmüller noticed that Albert's handwriting had not changed. His spelling of the capital letter "A" is especially characteristic.
Two weeks later, Werthmüller told about the message he received to Hoffmann's children, Andreas and Beatrice, and even showed them a photocopy of the note. Both declared without hesitation that it was their father's handwriting. Parapsychologist Dr. Stanley Kripner had a friendly relationship with Hofmann for many years. He also carefully examined the note and, comparing the handwriting with the numerous letters of Albert Hoffman stored in him, he also came to the unequivocal conclusion that the handwriting in the note fully corresponds to the handwriting in Hoffman's letters during his lifetime.
Otherworldly humor
But what does the thimble have to do with it? After a while, it occurred to Lucius Wertmüller that Albert Hofmann worked a lot with cardiac glycosides, in particular with digitalis, which is otherwise called foxglove. It was, perhaps, a joke quite in the spirit of Albert Hoffmann, which he often allowed himself.
- I am sure, - the Swiss parapsychologist Werthmüller finishes his story, - that the members of the spiritualist circle are impeccably decent people. In addition, none of them personally knew Albert Hoffmann. So no one, except myself, could prepare and imperceptibly toss a thimble with a message sealed in it, but I didn't!
And further. German writer Thomas Mann was a participant in a seance with his friend Baron von Schrenck-Notzing and observed similar manifestations of materialization. He became convinced that there could be no question of fraud in any mechanical sense. But, unfortunately, the manifestations, the reality of which are not questioned by the people who observed them, have not yet aroused the keenest interest of the absolute majority of scientists.
