Then, slightly bewildered by the words that involuntarily escaped from him, Mikhail Sergeyevich added: "And I woke up."
Well, you can understand Gorbachev. After all, he could not tell the whole country that he was talking on the phone with his late wife. So he referred to a dream. Although, most likely, such a conversation actually took place.
The phenomenon of the "afterlife"
The fact that the deceased who remain alive in the subtle world can use an ordinary telephone to establish contact with our material world has long been considered impossible. Although the phenomenon of "phone calls from the other world" has been known since the beginning of the 20th century. For the first time, spontaneous manifestations of this kind were analyzed by American researchers of paranormal phenomena Scott Rogo and Raymond Bayless, who wrote the monograph "Telephone calls from the dead" on the basis of their research.

The authors give many examples of such a "afterlife" connection. The first of these is associated with 50-year-old Viola Tollen from Indianapolis. It was already dusk when the phone rang in her house. Sitting alone, Mrs. Tollen picked up the phone and heard the voice … of a neighbor boy Ruby Stone, who was killed in a car accident a few weeks ago, with whom she was friends. "They also say that I cannot call, but I am calling, right?" - said Ruby in a somewhat strange but recognizable voice.
So Mrs. Tollen became a participant in a rare phenomenon known as the "deceased's phone call." Then she admitted that this call did not cause fear in her, on the contrary, she was surprised and delighted.
However, the shocked woman did not have time to insert a word, as the connection was interrupted.
In another instance, a dialogue between a 73-year-old widow from Portland and her late husband lasted several minutes. The late husband spoke about his love for his wife, asked about relatives and friends, but flatly refused to discuss his new state and whereabouts. This telephone conversation was interrupted suddenly, literally in mid-sentence. An investigation by the telephone company showed that no calls were detected by the equipment at the time.
Soul among the living
In most cases, calls from the deceased are heard in the first hours after their death, less often - in the first days, even less often - months. One of the longest recorded periods since the caller died is two years. Moreover, the main purpose of such calls, although the deceased do not directly talk about it, is to inform people close to them that they are alive after death.
It is no coincidence that many religious teachings claim that the soul, after leaving the body, is still among the living for some time. Hence, the noted periods after death: three, nine, forty days, nine months. The soul, which has found itself outside the body, has not yet renounced everyday worries and is looking for an opportunity to connect with the living.
In 1971, two McConnally sisters from Arizona spoke for almost 30 minutes with an old friend, Mrs Andy Johnson, a few hours after she died at her home in New York. Only after a while did the sisters learn that they were talking with a man who had already left this world. Six years later, in 1977, a girl named Mary Meridith, who was at her home in Oklahoma, received a call from her cousin who lived in Kentucky. In itself, this fact was not surprising, since they often spoke on the phone. But before that, Mary Meridith received a letter detailing the sudden death of her cousin.
And in 1987, in the United States, a plane crashed into the hotel where Christopher Evans lived. The explosion was powerful, a huge column of smoke and fire rose into the sky. Evans' parents lived in a nearby town. Having heard about the incident on the radio, they were seriously alarmed. However, a phone call soon rang. Their son's voice sounded in the receiver, telling them not to worry. The Evans calmed down, but when Christopher did not return by evening, anxiety seized them again. In the end, the parents drove to the ruins of the hotel and there, amid the general chaos, found the body of their son covered with a sheet.
As practice shows, in almost half of the cases of such communication, only the deceased speaks. Moreover, his voice very soon either gets interrupted, or becomes unintelligible, as if drowning in extraneous noise. Some of these episodes were investigated by the telephone companies, but it almost always turned out that the equipment did not record any calls at the moments of otherworldly communications.
In several cases studied by the researchers, the deceased who called from the subtle world mentioned some anonymous "they" who made it possible to make contact, and warned that they had very little time. These words indicate that the connection between the living and the dead is not only difficult, but also not allowed unless absolutely necessary.
My phone rang …
On the Internet there are numerous cases of "calls from the other world" that took place in Russia. Here's one recent example:
“This incident with me happened a year after the death of my stepfather. The cell phone rings. The number is incomprehensible, as if from another country, something like +98463289384. I pick up the phone. The following dialogue followed:
Me: Hello.
There: Hello, can Sveta be allowed? (My mother's name is Sveta.)
Me: She's at work, and who is it?
There: This is Sasha, call Sveta (Stepfather's name was Sasha.)
Me: What Sasha? (Absolutely no second thoughts.)
There: How are you, okay?..
Then there was interference and the call was cut off. Then it dawned on me who had called. The strangest thing was that there was absolutely no fear, on the contrary, there was a state of elation, to such an extent there was an uplift that he cried with some incredible joy (even now I am writing, an involuntary smile on my face, and a tear is welling up). By the way, the voice was absolutely similar, I then once again ran the situation in my head and remembered."

“Recently, a friend of mine had a cell phone call. "Number is hidden" - displayed on the identifier. Her mother called:
- Hi, Lenochka, how are you? Look, spring is coming, and little Zhenya in old shoes, buy him something fashionable! How are you? Why don't you go to our grandmother?
- She got sick, - Lena answered automatically. I wanted to ask something, but my mother's voice was drowned in strange noises, the connection was interrupted. It seems to be the most common conversation, if not for one "but": Lena's mother was buried 40 days ago."

“My friend VF, having learned that her friend was terminally ill, agreed that she would let her know in any way whether there was life after“death”. She died in the fall. At the beginning of the next year, SMS began to come from her number, and there were so many of them that they quickly filled the phone's memory. The first series of them was empty, those that came later contained only one word: "YES!" VF called her daughter. She said that after she left, the phone was in the table and nobody touched it.
A voice from afar
Dr. Jennifer Mattinley of the Manchester Institute for the Study of the Paranormal recently summed up the results of many years of research on "calls from the other world":
“To this day, only a small number of people know that a telephone call is the most common means of communication through which the deceased try to contact their relatives and friends in this world. Many of us have experienced something like this: in the middle of the night, a call suddenly rings, but after picking up the receiver, we can not hear anything except the discharges of static electricity. In nine cases out of ten, this is an attempt by a deceased person to contact someone who was dear to him during his lifetime, and static discharges are nothing more than the background noise of space and time.
Dr. Mattinley, a physician and one of the leading experts in the study of the paranormal, has documented 1,067 cases of telephone contact between the dead and the living in England, France and the United States. In half of the cases, phrases were exchanged between the caller and his living relative or friend. In 204 cases, only the deceased spoke. In both versions, there is one characteristic detail: the otherworldly voice is heard clearly, but as if from afar, And at the end of the conversation, there is no clear signal in the form of an intermittent beep. However, it happens that the call buzzer itself is not heard. A person picks up the phone, intending to call someone, and suddenly hears the familiar voice of someone who has already left for another world. In other cases of otherworldly contacts, the voice "from the other world" was unintelligible or drowned in noise.
“Based on four years of research, I can say with confidence that such calls are quite common,” says Dr. Mattinley. - Therefore, the next time you hear a phone call at night, do not be alarmed: all the interviewed witnesses who have experience of communicating with the deceased say that the conversation did not cause any negative emotions in them, but, on the contrary, brought peace and joy.
