Mirages from the past regularly appear on the pages of the media. In earlier times, this phenomenon was called "heavenly battles," although events in them often developed at sea and on land. And very rarely there are relatively peaceful pictures such as marching troops or driving cattle.
In cases where the phenomenon of "heavenly battles" is observed on earth, the picture is so realistic that the witnesses are sure that they are seeing the action with living people. In the century before last, the English journal "Night Side of Nature" published the observations of eyewitnesses who observed the ghostly passage of troops near Iverness. Eyewitnesses were sure that everything that happened was real. But when they looked back, the column of troops disappeared.
In many places, such mirages from the past appear regularly, sometimes over the course of centuries. But the plot of the visions invariably repeats itself, which allowed some researchers to put forward the idea of "recording" pictures of the past in the environment. Voronezh geophysicist Silanov proposed his own version, calling it “field memory”.
Both hypotheses have several hard-to-explain points: what is the “recording” on and what “field” is it about? For my part, I will try to offer a third option: this is not a recording, but a projection, possibly directly into the brain of observers. I will not go into details, this hypothesis is also not perfect, but we will need it further.
There is another, much rarer kind of temporal mirages - mirages from the future. And if we perceive mirages from the past without problems, and historians easily identify them with real events by the form of clothing and other details, then with mirages from the future it is much more difficult.
We identify the near future at the very least, but the distant one, judging by the rapid progress of science and technology, most likely not. We just don't understand what we saw. Whoever disagrees with this statement, I can suggest to decipher the following observations of eyewitnesses:
“Once, during a white night in Leningrad, before sunrise, I was walking along the Neva embankment not far from the Bronze Horseman. The embankment was deserted, and there were very few cars passing by. And suddenly everything changed: something like a flash followed, and everything around him disappeared. Now I was walking on a flat gray surface, and in front of me in the air in several rows hung balls, the size of a soccer ball.

I saw something similar when I was on one of the uninhabited islands of Lake Ladoga. Exactly at midnight, a disc of fire began to rise from the horizon, which came out almost by half and at the same time was tens of times larger than the diameter of the moon. And in the same way, in reverse order, he went beyond the horizon. A similar picture was observed in the early 90s and in the Urals. There is even a step-by-step sketch of this phenomenon in the journal Technics for Youth. Much like watching Jupiter rise from one of its moons.

Apparently, the first documented observation of a mirage from the future is located in one of the Scottish monasteries. One day a monk was going to visit a nearby monastery. But when he went down into the valley, the surrounding illumination changed dramatically, and he saw an eerie sight: two shiny metal stripes were laid along the bottom of the valley, along which a black fire-breathing monster rushed straight towards him.
Mistaking him for the devil himself, the monk lost consciousness from fear. When I woke up, there was the same situation around. Refusing to visit, the monk returned to the monastery and wrote down his vision. And two hundred years later, a railway was laid along the bottom of the valley. But what could a medieval monk know about a steam locomotive?
The second case is well known, but we are interested in it because a reliable person, the future Air Force Marshal of the British Air Force, was a witness to it.
In 1934, Air Force pilot Victor Goddart was caught in a storm over Scotland. Trying to decide, he figured that he was not far from the Sandman, somewhere over an abandoned airfield. Descending, he found landmarks that confirmed that he was above the Drem. Suddenly everything around was lit up with some unearthly light, similar to the glow of the sun on a summer afternoon.
For some reason, there was a lot of activity at the abandoned airfield - mechanics in blue overalls were bustling around the planes painted in an unusual yellow light. Although he flew over them at an altitude of about 30 meters, no one raised their heads to look at his plane. He was about to land, but the ground beneath him suddenly began to fog up, and he had to gain altitude.
The mystery was solved in 1938. Things were heading for war, and the abandoned airfield in Dryoma was reopened, and an Air Force flight school was created on its base. And the training aircraft from silver were repainted yellow.
In principle, all these cases are also temporal mirages, but not from the past, but from the future. But this, according to modern science, definitely cannot be, since the future has not yet arrived. And thus the hypothesis of "recording" disappears - how can one write down what does not exist yet? The position with the projection hypothesis is somewhat better.
I want to draw your attention to the fact that the above pictures were seen or perceived only by their observers: neither a real airfield, nor a luminous city, nor a car from the future actually existed and could not exist. But if this is a projection from the future, the main question arises: who is directing it and why? Or put the question differently - what does the subconscious mind of the witnesses of temporal mirages connect to?
Or maybe we just have a bad idea of what time is? Interesting in this regard is the statement of the famous physicist, pioneer of radio communications Oliver Lodge: “Events, both past and future, can in a sense always exist, and perhaps it is we who are approaching them, and not they happen. If, for example, a traveler on a train could never get out of a carriage, he would probably think that the landscapes outside the window must inevitably follow each other, and would not be able to comprehend their simultaneous existence.
